This book had me shaking my head and laughing alternately! Can you imagine divorcing your no good cheating husband-picking up and moving to a different town--buying a bookstore-then finding out the resident cat could speak-English! Well that is what happened to Nell Darling. And to top it all off--she is woken by said cat who tells her there is a dead body in her store!!As she and her new friends--all characters in their own right--try to find the killer lots happens that will keep you reading. Of course there is a detective who attempts to stop them from investigating---Nell literally catches the killer---sometimes menopause can be a good thing!! I can't write too much more or will give away all of the secrets revealed--but if you enjoy a good clean book and need a laugh or three--go get this book and read it!

I’ve just finished books 1 and 2 of this series and was surprised to discover that I really enjoyed them! I don’t normally read paranormal stories but these were fun, with the storyline proposing that women come into their powers at menopause, sometimes with surprising results! In the first book Jennifer is being attacked and uses her powers to turn herself into a cat, now JenniFur. In book 2, in her menopause, Nell decides to leave her cheating and verbally abusive husband, move far away and buy a bookshop (upon the advice of a medium). Both books are full of zany and interesting characters and are highly entertaining!

Midlife, finds husband in a compromising situation, leaves him and everything, moves to small town to start over and soon finds herself involved in a mystery. So far, the basic plot in a lot of the mid-life type of mysteries. This one has a few twists. The cat comes with the store and ends up being another woman who transformed herself and doesn't seem to want to change back. Nell Darling meets some very whacky people, and it turns out she is not to be a witch but one of the fae (fairies) of the summer court and so are they. Now all they have to do is solve the mystery. A comfortable cozy mystery. Even if it is like many others, it is still a good story and an enjoyable read.

The world-building, which rather imaginatively includes Celtic lore, is surprising and deftly managed; however, most of the characters are obnoxious and/or idiotic and feel more suited to Alice's Wonderland. Since Nell and the cat (main characters!) are the worst offenders, this series teetered on the brink of "don't bother"; but the clever result to the final confrontation, as well as the desire to know more about Wild Lime Mountain, piques my interest as to where this author will take the series.

Nell Darling is undergoing several life-changing episodes at one time: menopause, divorce, relocation, a new business, and more. (To say more would be to give away a major plot surprise.) By book's end, she's identified a murderer, found her footing in her new business, shed herself of an annoying ex, and established a circle of friends, among which is a talking cat. One of the great surprises for me was the appearance of Prudence Wallflower from another of Morgana Best's series, Prime Time Crime. Always wanted to know what happened to Prudence and Levi ... and now I know. Hope they'll feature regularly in MenoPaws Mysteries! Highly recommend this new series, and the Prime Time Crime series, too.

Ok so murder she wrote this is not but at the same time the magic and talking cat is why I saw it through. A murder mystery is not my favourite genre I will be honest but I loved the short so much I thought I may enjoy this. So what saved this book for me was Jennifur and her very catty attitude and no nonsense approach. The hard push from the police for no real reason really irked me all the way through and the dark fae being the reason felt like a cop out. I will be interested to see more but hope the main character gets fleshed out more as the series progresses.
