I am really enjoying this series. The characters are likeable, the main character is learning life lessons as well as saving the kingdom. There is enough action and switch up to make it fun to read and while the results are a bit "Hollywood", that is alright for the audience that is being targeted. Two parallel realms, and many different characters have made these books a great read. As a reader, I find myself sympathizing and enjoying the different scenarios, and looking forward to the next adventure.

If you enjoyed Book 1 of the Andy Smithson series by L. R. W. Lee, you'll love Book 2, Venom of the Serpent's Cunning. When Andy makes his second trip to the Land of Oomaldee he’s 11 years old and the challenges he faces prove daunting. During this adventure expect large scale battles, underwater swims to venture toward a magical island and engagements with the seven-headed red dragon Abbadon.

Andy not only faces wave after wave of challengers, but shape shifting antagonists while trying to reverse a curse enacted by Imogenia, the king's sister, from the Afterlife that leaves King Hercalon V and the Wizard Mermin on the verge of death.

If this isn’t enough, Andy continues to pursue a second ingredient in his quest to end a 500 year curse. The more I read from L.R.W. Lee, the more I’m drawn to her engaging writing. I can’t wait to read book 3. Andy, his best friend Alden, and a host of allies work to solve a riddle. In addition, they must find the illusive Sometimes Island even as Abbadon controls the territory around Oomaldee. When Andy ventures into a secret library he discovers surprising clues about his heritage that will carry him forward.

This series keeps getting better and better. I hope you enjoy it as much as I.

My Thoughts - 4 out of 5 Unicorns - I really liked it!!!

The cover is definitely adventurous, and I think it will attract boys who love adventure and slaying beasts :)

I bought this book back in July, and I really enjoyed the new adventure that Andy and his friends went on. This book had all sorts of mysteries and puzzles to solve. Action galore for boys who are imaginative and like to pretend that stick in the yard is a sword, and they are slaying a beast to protect all. As an adult, I found a few of the parts a little boring, but I think my son would love this book as well as many other reluctant readers who love their video game adventures.

L.R.W. does a wonderful job engaging the reader in the story. She is very descriptive making it easy to picture what is happening in your mind as you read. I think this next book is going to be my favorite, and I can’t wait to start reading it. One day, I will get this book and the next in paperback to share in my classroom library with my adventure seeking students.

I recommend this series to adventurous souls who love keeping the bad guys at bay with their swords especially if you love using your imagination. If you read book 1, you definitely need to keep reading. Off to read book 3 now :)

I thought the first book was fantastic but this was too. I love the adventure Andy must endure. It captured me too. I don't think I slept waiting to see how.it all turns out. The challenges aren't easy for a boy. And to have to wait so long to get back to complete his mission was just enduring. Can't wait for the next version.

I've enjoyed reading both book 1 & book 2 (this book) in the new series. While they appear to be aimed at tween or young adult readers, as a "mature" adult, I found them both very enjoyable to read. I look forward to the remainder of the series, and will be recommending them to the next 2 generations of my family & friends.

I love this entire series! all of them have so many things going on at the same time and I love the complexity of everything. I love riddles and I always try to solve them before Andy does. I've always been a huge fan of mythology and mideval history.
