The Audacious Miss Eliza: A Sweet Regency Romance (Daughters of Courage Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 1,484 ratings

As it turns out, a London Season is the worst place to find love.

Eliza Mulgrave never expected to make her bows to society. Yet here she is, dancing at Almacks and riding through Hyde Park. It would be perfectly delightful if it weren’t for the whispers and scornful glances. She certainly never sought to quit her place in society as a tradesman’s daughter. At least then she had known who she was and how to act; now, she’s completely lost.

Adam Lambert has been raised to be a viscount and though the time has come sooner than expected he is confident stepping into this new life. Until he meets his Father’s best kept secret—a little girl. And now she’s Adam’s responsibility. Surely someone ought to have told him about her before now.

After stumbling through an initial meeting, Adam and Eliza both find in the other what they most need this Season—a sincere friend. But society is not often willing to grant two people room to learn for themselves who to be, or who to love.

As the first stand-alone novel in a new series by author Laura Rollins, The Audacious Miss Eliza begins the Daughters of Courage series. This charming story is a light-hearted, clean and wholesome romance set in the Regency era. All books in this series have their own Happily-Ever-After and can be read apart but are best enjoyed in proper order.

Laura Rollins has always loved a heart-melting happily ever after. It didn’t matter if the story took place in Regency England, or in a cobbler’s shop, if there was a sweet romance, she would read it.

Life has given her many of her own adventures. Currently she lives in the Rocky Mountains with her best-friend, who is also her husband, and their four beautiful children. She still loves to read books and more books; her favorite types of music are classical, Broadway, and country; she loves hiking in the mountains near her home; and she’s been known to debate with her oldest son about whether Infinity is better categorized as a number or an idea.

Loved! Highly recommend for clean regency romance lovers!

Loved! Highly recommend for clean regency romance lovers!
I stayed up until 1 finishing this book, knowing full well I needed to get up at 6:30 for the gym this morning. It was truly one of those “just one more chapter” situations. (And then one more and one more and so on.)⁣⁣⁣⁣I could not stand not knowing what would happen next with Adam and Eliza. I loved watching their relationship grow and I also loved the unmatched kindness Eliza showed to her sisters and friends. This book gave me major Downton Abbey feels and I enjoyed it. It was soooo swoony!! I’m so excited that it’s the first in a series and I cannot wait for book 2 due out later this month! (And then 3 next month and book 4 next year!!)⁣⁣This book is more like 4.25 stars. It took me a little bit to get into it and there were a few things that I didn’t love, but it was such a good story and I ending up loving it so much!Thank you to the author for my gifted copy in an exchange for an honest review. Can’t wait to read the next one!⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

After her father’s being knighted, Eliza has been thrown into society something she isn’t used to, along with her sister Dinah and cousin Rachel. They get some help from Lady Blackmore. Adam has taken over as Viscount after his father’s death but upon arrival at his new home he finds his father’s ward, a little girl he knew nothing about. She is his responsibility now.

Eliza is such a sweet character! She will do anything to help others even sacrifice herself. When she meets Adam, he likes her bluntness and finds it refreshing. I really liked how open the Adam and Eliza were with each other and didn’t keep secrets. Adam steps into his role as Viscount really well and takes good care of his ward. I also loved Sir Seth and Lady Blackmore’s friendship they are quite entertaining! Great read and clean! Looking forward to the next book! I definitely recommend!

I give this book 4.5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️✨

“No matter who’s present, no matter what anyone else will think, no matter what’s happening, I hope you can be you, be brave enough to stay you, regardless.”

Dear Eliza has grown up happy and confident as the daughter of a tradesman, but when her father is knighted and decides to take her to London for her one and only season, she really is not sure it is the good fortune everyone keeps telling her it is. As it turns out, a London Season is the worst place to find love. It really would be perfectly delightful if it weren’t for the whispers and scornful glances.

Genuine Adam Lambert has been raised to be a viscount, and though the time has come much sooner than expected he is confident stepping into this new life. That is until, he meets his Father’s best kept secret—a little girl. And now she’s Adam’s great responsibility.

Surely someone ought to have told him about her before now. After stumbling through an initial meeting, Adam and Eliza both find in the other what they most need this Season, a sincere true friend.

However, society is not often willing to grant two lovely people inside and out room to learn for themselves who to be, or who to love…

“I hope that, you have the audacity to be yourself, no matter who else is around, is one of the reasons you have become so dear to me.”

The Audacious Miss Eliza begins the Daughters of Courage series and can be read as a stand alone. This charming story is a light-hearted, quick read, clean, and wholesome romance set in the Regency era. I loved the themes weaved through this story about being true to yourself, and the importance of lasting relationships. This dear story is worth reading.

“Didn’t I tell you?” he asked. I love you. I love you ardently, I love you completely.” He took hold of her hands and pulled her close to him. I love you wildly and madly.”

“How perfect. I love you that way, too.”

I loved reading this refreshing romance with its sweetness, humor, and characters who told it like it is! Didn't have to wade through lots of draining deception as some novels have. Sweet addition of the little ward, too.

No spoilers. There is nothing more frustrating than a decent book with a bad ending. I'm not going to spoil the ending of this book, but it's just so typical. It seems like lately regency romances only ever end with either the heroine being abducted to Gretna Green or the way this one did.

Other than the completely predictable and frustrating ending, the book was okay, but the dialogue between the staff and the main characters was not at all realistic, so it made the story seem less believable. And the characters all felt just a bit shallow.

The worst part was the heroine. I truly didn't understand her logic at times. I think that's because the author was trying to make a meek character who becomes audacious, but she wasn't able to do that very well. The result was just this flat, nonsensical mess.

I think I will try one more book by this author before calling it quits. This one wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great either and I hate frustrating endings. I just hope the next one doesn't end at Gretna Green.

I would recommend this book to all who enjoy a good love story, spiced with a little conflict and a little ginger of determin- ation. Can't wait to read the next episode of this exciting drama.

I love Eliza. She is a very admirable character, so admirable that she is willing to sacrifice her happiness for a friend. I loved that she was able to stand up to pompous idiots for a governess put in a hard position. She is what you would hope to find in all ranks of society.

This book was fun to read. I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

The author has woven a great story of love and intrigue that keeps the reader turning to the next chapter, and then the one father that...and the protagonists are interesting, the plot enjoyable.

I loved the ending, Eliza being brave enough to stand up to her friend and fight for love. Great read

The author didn't bother to spend two minutes on Google finding out what you call a knight. If the man's name is Seth Mulgrave, after he is knighted, he becomes Sir Seth Mulgrave, and you call him Sir Seth. Not Sir Mulgrave.

I'm sick of seeing American authors who think they can write about another culture when they have zero knowledge about it and have done zero research.

I stopped reading on page 9 because of this mistake (there had already been quite a few Americanisms by that point too).

Written in terrible prose by an author who has no understanding whatever of the time and place in which she has chosen to set her story.
