Trevor Negus was born in Enfield, north London and spent the early years of his childhood at Waltham Cross. At the age of eight his parents emigrated to Australia. He then spent just over two years living in Rockhampton, Central Queensland. The family returned to the UK in 1971 settling in the mining community of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. In 1975 Trevor joined the Nottinghamshire Constabulary as a Police Cadet, becoming a regular officer in 1978. As a uniform constable he learned his craft in the pressure cooker environment of inner city Nottingham which at that time had one of the highest violent crime rates in the United Kingdom.

During a varied thirty year police career Trevor spent six years as an authorised firearms officer and sniper, before transferring onto the CID. He spent the last twelve years of his career as a detective, becoming a specialist interviewer involved in the planning and implementation of interviews with murder suspects. He retired from the police in 2007, becoming the Director of a Specialist Laser Clinic and Training Academy.

A keen writer all his adult life, Trevor took the decision to devote more time to his writing after leaving the police force.

After self publishing six crime thrillers, he was signed by MMB Creative.

He now writes full time and has signed a book deal with Inkubator Books, to write a series of crime thrillers involving Detective Chief Inspector Danny Flint.

The Flint series of crime thrillers, will be set in 1980’s Nottinghamshire.

The first in the series, Evil in Mind, is a very dark crime thriller set in Nottinghamshire in 1984, at the heart of the year long bitter miners strike. It centres on the relationship forged between two men from completely different backgrounds who are thrown together by circumstance. Recognising their identical murderous natures, the two men embark on a deadly killing spree across the county.

The second in the series, Dead and Gone has been released alongside the first. Dead and Gone is a story of one man’s revenge.

The third book in the series, A Cold Grave, is a study of systematic child abuse and the efforts made by Danny and his team of detectives to halt this evil.

The fourth book in the series, Taken to Die released in August 2021sees Danny Flint and the MCIU trying to solve the mysterious disappearance of a fourteen year old girl. She is the daughter of two high profile barristers and it soon becomes apparent they have countless enemies. The question is whether any of those enemies are capable of taking a young girl to die.

The fifth book in the series, Kill for You, will be released on 14th November 2021

Set in Nottinghamshire in 1987. Summer should be a time of ease and relaxation. But there are two killers stalking the county. The first is a pyromaniac, enthralled by fire. He likes to watch as his victims desperately try to escape the rising flames. The other is a gentle giant who has been abused and ridiculed all his life. Now he’s out to settle old scores by killing anyone who has previously wronged him, by drowning them in the dark and deadly waters of the River Trent. DCI Flint and the MCIU are tasked with stopping the killers. If they fail, it will mean a long, hot summer of death.

Further books in this crime thriller series, will be released in the Spring and Summer of 2022.

Although this storyline concerns serial killings and is a rather dark read, the writing is very good. The characters are very well developed and the dialogue is believable. This police investigation is very realistic and illustrates how difficult some cases are to solve. The addition of the now famous coal workers strike added a great historical element to this intriguing novel.

I saw the cover and for some reason I decided to try it. Glad I did. Interesting series set in England, London area. And set in 1984. Well written, I felt like I was in England in the 80's. The mood and characters were great. A top notch villian. Started the next book and got 8 more after that. Recommended.

Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the eARC.
It's England in 1984 and there's a huge coalminers' strike raging. The details were interesting, since I remembered the strike, but not the details.
We meet Jimmy Wade, a stone cold killer who started at age eleven. Eventually he meets a policeman, Sergeant Nick Reynolds, who's dying to kill his wife, but starts off with prostitutes. The men recognize they have similar tastes and begin hunting and killing together. Meanwhile, DI Flint is under much pressure; not only has his father had a life threatening stroke, he meets a special woman, and to top it off, he has only three other officers to work with; the others are all busy with the strike. Working the case of the horrific killings takes up all of his time, he's overwhelmed.
It's a good police procedural, with a good sense of place, but I found the grisly details of the murders hard to read, so ended up skipping those many chapters. The ending has a good twist and I really recommend this book for readers who are not as squeamish as I am.

I do not usually read British mystery as the meaning of words is sometimes difficult to understand, however this was a very good read. Try next one.

Good story, well written. Enjoyed but like for books complete. If I like an author I will buy the next book in the series BUT I don't want to feel I have to keep buying book after book just to get to the ending of the first book. I am much more likely to continue buying books in a standalome series.

wo killers, thrown together by circumstance and recognising each other’s murderous natures, they embark on a brutal killing spree, using Wade's natural cunning and Reynolds knowledge of forensics and police procedures to evade detection.

This was a great read, it was clever and interesting and I really enjoyed the setting of the Mining Strikes in the 1980's - it's nice to read about murders set in a different time and it adds to the whole desperateness and depression of the characters. I loved following along with the Police Investigation and the changing of the characters perspectives, there were some backstories in there to help build the character profiles which I loved. You got to see more to people than just them at work.

It was a captivating read, with many twists and turns. I did enjoy (and find hard at the same time) how I felt worse and worse for each victim and was still expecting them to fight back every time. The murders were extremely gruesome, so I think some may skip over these parts but for me they really added to the story by showing just how careful, calculating and evil these two men are. The ending did not disappoint and didn't feel too hurried which I often find with books of this genre.

Will definitely be reading more of this Author.

3.0 out of 5 stars A promising opener

There were some things I liked about this book and others I liked less, but overall it was a decent introduction to a new series. I particularly liked the setting of the 1984 miners' strike, as I am old enough to remember flying pickets, "scabs" and the confrontations between police and miners which played out on our television news for weeks on end. It also made a refreshing change to go back to an era without computers, mobile phones or DNA and other advanced forensics. However, although the main characters were reasonably well fleshed out and the plot (if not startlingly original) at least coherent, the story-telling could have done with more attention: the author falls back too often on "telling" rather than "showing", and the dialogue is rather stilted at times. In addition my Kindle edition suffered from poor formatting, with individual sentences sentences indented as paragraphs, making for an unnecessarily disjointed read. I gave it 2½ stars rounded up to 3 for the original setting - I'll be continuing with the series and look forward to seeing how the author deals with the introduction of "genetic fingerprinting" once we hit 1986.

The first book of the Danny Flint crime thriller series of fact based fiction by Trevor Negus - Author, set in Nottinghamshire in 1984 against the background of the bitter, acrimonious miners strike following the killing spree of a newly formed partnership of a psychopathic Police Sergeant a pure evil mineworker and the thorough professional, dedicated, brilliant pursuit of them by DI Danny Flint and his team who have been tasked with finding and stopping them in their tracks.
Evil In Mind is captivating; each unique believable character, scene, scenario and circumstance is so skillfully written , evoking a wide contrast of emotions such as the tender heart touching scenes between Danny and his beloved Dad and the romance and love between Danny and his lady Sue to the heart palpatating, needing to stop reading a moment then NEEDING to carry on scene of pure horror and gore of THAT particular body discovery....
A wonderful mixture of varied characters and their situations that you get to know enough about to decide who you care about!
The descriptive narrative is superb throughout and it's clear this is the best of what can be achieved when first class , first hand experience/knowledge is combined with first class writing.
Absolutely incredible!

I would wholeheartedly recommend Evil In Mind to any crime thriller reader and even to those not familiar or interested in this genre, this may be the one to convert you!

5.0 out of 5 stars An extremely well written and gripping story
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on July 13, 2021
This book is a fantastic start to a new series. It is extremely well written and totally absorbing right from the start. It draws the reader in and takes them right back to the 1980’s with the miners strike, the Thatcher government and the policing of that era. The plot itself was very imaginative in a chilling way and really made you wonder what it is that makes people so evil. The main characters of DI Danny Flint and DS Rob Buxton were very interesting and well defined making them very believable and engaging. The problems that Danny encountered with the budget cuts and resources were something that was totally frustrating but sadly a reflection of the times the story was set in, which made it all the more realistic. The case itself was horrific and kept me turning the pages well into the night hoping that the killer would be caught and stopped before any more tragedies could ensue. Interestingly the ending was an amazing twist in the plot and was completely unexpected. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys psychological crime thrillers and I am certainly going to read the next two in the series.
