Editorial Reviews

Review

"This is a great beginner's cookbook. Yes, the tastes are geared toward teenagers, but it is appropriate for people of all ages. The recipes are straightforward in terms of ingredients and instructions, which is always a plus. For the ones I've tried, the recipes are brilliant. This is simply a wonderful cookbook that we are already using in our home."

-- Mia Greer, culinary blogger

"I wish I'd had a book like this when I was a teenager. I'm a decent cook now, but in the beginning, I squandered a lot of fresh ingredients while "experimenting" in the kitchen. The recipes are crowd-pleasers that most kids and teens will enjoy, and my teenagers are no exception!"

-- Phoebe Estrada, cooking enthusiast

"This cookbook is a great way for my young teen to get a good foundation in basic cooking techniques, as he is very interested in learning to cook. In my opinion, it accomplishes what it sets out to do--help anew cook gain confidence by providing recipes for a variety of meals and occasions."

-- Remi Lindsey, Amazon customer

"This is a very good cookbook! It's ideal for those who are just getting started in the kitchen or who are just not very good at it. This cookbook takes the time to demonstrate the fundamentals of cooking, as well as cooking tools, and simply makes cooking less intimidating."

-- Grace Cali

"This is my favorite cookbook now! I love it because the cooked result is the same as the recipe photo! And believe me the photos can make you slobbering, so don't look at them when you too hungry! The dishes I tried looked beautiful and was very pleasant to taste! No regrets about buying this book!"

-- Lucy Colon, novice cook

"I love it has a pictured guide about the whole cooking process! Chopping, dicing, how to hold a knife, what the difference between simmering and boiling - it answered all my questions that I had! I'm really glad I decided to start cooking with this book! Very useful and informative! The recipes are gorgeous!"

-- Ivy Reese, college student

"This book would make an perfect gift for those just starting out, such as college students, anyone who enjoys cooking but is still learning, anyone who wants easy-to-follow recipes, and just about anyone else. This is a wonderful cookbook that I would highly recommend."

-- Emma Walton, food blogger

"Thank you so much for these amazing and easy recipes for teens! I was looking something for my daughter and she is completely satisfied with book! She uses it when I'm busy at work or not at home so she is never hungry now! Thank you so much for your book, I can be calm she's not starving and doesn't wait for me to eat!"

-- Hope Cross, happy mom of the young cook)))

"I'm one of those teens who like watch Master Chef and spend all my free time on kitchen and I have a lot of fun with this book!! It helped me a lot to improve my cooking skills and I'm excited to try it's all recipes! Everything I've already cooked was very tasty and it the same time easy !!"

-- Kayla Cohen, high school student

"This book is great if you're teen and want to start cooking! You will find here anything you need as a beginner - a detailed guide about knife skills, food, and cooking itself! The best part is the recipes! I enjoy something from this book every day, especially its sandwiches and drinks.10 yummies out of 10!!"

This is a great cook book! I love that it includes what cooking tools you’ll need, what to have in your pantry, how to cut and chop for prep (my teen could really use this part), as well as other useful skills to know before you begin. The recipes were great as well. Plenty of foods teens would actually enjoy eating. It’s a great introduction to cooking without being overwhelming. And I’m very happy it had pictures to make you want to try these foods as well!

A lot of great recipes. A great learning cookbook for teens. It starts a love of cooking that continues.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The author claims this is the “ultimate” teen cookbook with “cool” recipes for teen boys and girls. Nothing about the book is “ultimate,” and the concept of “cool” is certainly wide open to interpretation. Unfortunately, the book has numerous flaws. Before the recipes, a short introductory section goes over things like what you should have on hand in the kitchen so you can cook (ingredients, pots/pans, gadgets, etc.) as well as introduces some techniques like basic knife skills. Since this book is for young teens, some of this didn't seem quite appropriate. Parents would be the likely ones to keep food to cook with on hand and have cooking equipment already in the house; teens wouldn’t be going out to buy this stuff! In at least one place in the instructional section, the author clearly confused terms; the author's definition of “chiffonade” was more like dicing or mincing. The book was awkwardly written in places, as if someone who is a non-native English speaker wrote the book and didn’t have it either copyedited or proofread (or even vetted) by a native English speaker. Extraneous words were left in; standard phrases were incorrect. This is certainly not a book you would want to give to a young teenager to help them learn how to cook as it will most likely confuse them or teach them incorrectly.

The recipes had issues as well. Every recipe has a photo, but clearly, not each photo goes with the recipe it is supposed to. One recipe calls for thinly sliced ham, but the photo shows ham in thick rectangles. The most egregious photo “error,” I think, is the one that goes with the Mexican Tortilla Pizza recipe. The ingredients and techniques are simple, but what is seen in the photo does not reflect the actual ingredients or the directions given. The photo shows stacked full-round tortilla layers with something in between with chopped tomato, salsa, green onions, cheese (melted and uncooked), and other items I can't quite determine on top (maybe red bell pepper strips?); the directions have you use the tortillas singly, not one on top of another. The ingredients list is simply tortillas, mild salsa, guacamole (which I cannot see in the photo), Mexican blend cheese, and red onion (again, no evidence of this in the photo). Because of this cookbook's many issues, I cannot recommend it in the slightest.

I received a free copy of this cookbook, but that did not affect my review.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great book for my 15 year old nephew
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 5, 2023
Brought as a stocking filler, I was concerned when my nephew did not know how to turn on the oven. So I thought it would be good to give him a book that helps him to gain more independence. He was engaged by the recepies in the book as they were most of the foods he tends to eat. I’m looking forward to see what meals he comes up with and hope he takes this book with him into his adulthood.

A cookery book makes food appealing by having full colour pictures of it inside. This book has grainy black and white pictures of the food. Would not have bought it if I'd seen inside.

I bought this for my son who loves cooking, the text is black and white, i could’ve printed it myself and stapled together. He was so excited to get it from “Santa” and he started using it, otherwise i would return it. I didnt open it upon receiving it…money down the drain.
