"Jackson's debut novel blends elements of suspense and legal drama to create an action-packed, fast-paced crime thriller."--Publishers Weekly

What Lurks Inside Is about to Crawl Out...

Donovan Montgomery is
Chicago’s top forensic psychiatrist, an expert on behavioral deviance whose belief in law and order and convincing testimony has locked up the city’s worst criminals.

With her latest case, the stakes have never been higher. Violence and racial tensions are boiling over in the Windy City. A neo-Nazi is running for congress, while a white supremacist is being tried for a triple murder. It will be Donovan’s job to derail the candidate and convict the killer. But things are about to go horribly wrong with the city, the campaign, the trial, and with Donovan herself.

What nobody could have foreseen is that Donovan harbors a terrifying secret that has long been suppressed, buried so deep inside her even she’s not aware of it. But with a mind of its own, this thing has been clawing its way out. Unleashed, it is a frightening side of Donovan she never knew existed.

Her life quickly takes a dizzying twist; her pursuit of truth spins into a personal vendetta. Donovan plunges into the city’s underworld, an asylum of corruption, conspiracies, and madness—just the kind of chaos for this dangerously changed–Donovan to make right with her newfound brand of justice.

Chicago and Donovan will never be the same again.

Review

"Jackson's debut novel blends elements of suspense and legal drama to create an action-packed, fast-paced crime thriller. Esteemed forensic psychiatrist Donovan Montgomery [gives] expert testimony at the murder trial of neo-Nazi Mason Ghetz, but to everyone's surprise Ghetz is cleared of all charges. With Ghetz on the loose and her reputation tainted, Montgomery is determined to get justice by any means necessary. As readers enter Montgomery's world, they quickly realize the good doctor isn't exactly what she appears. As the true nature of Montgomery's work unfolds, crime junkies and thrill seekers will enjoy the twists and turns she experiences in search of the truth. Racial and political conflict increase already high tension as Montgomery, who is black, takes on white supremacist organizations. Jackson excels at weaving aspects of Montgomery's life, backstory, and relationships into the narrative. The chemistry between Montgomery and [her] love interest sizzles. The author's medical experience is evident throughout. Despite there being no doubt of the lengths Montgomery will go to "make it right," readers will be guessing until the end. Great for fans of Walter Mosley, Kathy Reichs's Temperance Brennan series."
--Publishers Weekly

"Donovan Montgomery is a badass forensic psychiatrist with a versatile arsenal of weapons, both mental and physical. She's going to need all of them, because her testimony in the trial of a White Supremacist has put a target on her back. I read
Make It Right in one sitting, impelled through the fast-moving plot. A gripping tale with more than one mystery at its core."
--Maya Kaathryn Bohnhoff, New York Times Bestselling Author of THE ANTIQUITIES HUNTER

"Donovan Montgomery is part Kinsey Millhone, part Hannibal Lecter--and all brilliant. A malevolent, intricate tale of murder and madness."
--David Niall Wilson, USA Today Bestselling Author of
Deep Blue and This is My Blood

"
Make It Right is thoroughly absorbing. While riddles, suspense, and mind games flavor the tale, it's the social issues which permeate the plot. The end-result is a powerful novel that will resonate with readers who like their books authentic, exciting, unpredictable, and imbued with a respectful nod to the challenges we face every day."
--Midwest Book Review

"
Make It Right, has been brilliantly built as both a high-speed page-turner and a first rate Netflix or Amazon Prime movie. Topical elements are expertly connected in an exciting, suspenseful mystery-thriller: white supremacists, political corruption, a mass shooting event, and a heroine who is not strictly who she first appears to be. . . Spell-binding authenticity. . . Highly recommended."
--James H Longmore, author of the
Flanagan; Tenebrion; and Pede

"In this drum-tight, uber-twisty thriller, Willie Mae Jackson has given us the scariest, sexiest heroine in Doctor Donovan Montgomery: black, brilliant, movie star-gorgeous, and a forensic psychiatrist. The plot is fresh, the dialogue is snappy, and the characters are as flawed and jagged as a jailhouse shiv."
--Lee Adams, author of
5th and Vanguard and Nighthawks (Julie Page Mystery Series)

"Willie Mae Jackson has created [an] outstanding female protagonist who is flawed, intelligent, and more than willing to step outside of the law.
Make It Right delivers action, intrigue, ruthless killers, and peril as our heroine (a criminal psychiatrist) winds up unraveling a conspiracy right out of today's headlines."
-- Anneliese Khalil, author of
Ascension

"Move over Jackie Brown, Cleopatra Jones, and Foxy Brown. You can add to that elite list an absolutely unique badass black woman for a new generation: the smart, brave Dr. Donovan Montgomery. A solid five stars."

A Real Page Turner!
I just finished this incredible book. It's the 1st of a trilogy. Make It Right had me on the edge of my seat page after page. I haven't read fiction in awhile, so it not only was a nice change of pace, but I forgot how much I love these types of pleasure reads. If you are seeking something gritty, sexy, and twisted... get Make It Right! Plus, I love how its based in my home city of Chicago; you literally feel like you're walking the streets of Chitown when you are reading this Donavon Montgomery novel. Dr Jackson is a talented author. Can't wait for the next book!!

I was most excited to learn this is the author’s debut novel and the first of a series, as it kept me riveted from start to finish. It is exciting and very well-paced, violent and nail-bitingly suspenseful. Part thriller, part procedural mystery, and overall a gripping story.

Doctor Donovan Montgomery is a forensic psychiatrist who specializes in criminal profiling and is a bona-fide asskicker as well. All the characters are three-dimensional and believable (sometimes frighteningly so in the case of the nefarious Ghetz), but Donovan stands out as a most engaging character. I found her intriguing, tough as nails and sexy, and she does things not by the book, but by her own book. I will look forward to reading more stories about her in the future and can’t wait for the sequel to Make It Right.

The realistic Chicago setting puts the reader right in the middle of the action and suspense, and the author paints brilliant scene after brilliant scene. The labyrinthine and crumbling justice system is presented in a way that is informative and true-to-life but never dry or preachy. Once the bullets start flying, the reader can expect to be enthralled to the last page. Don’t hesitate to pick this one up!

Make it Right (MiR) is a strong debut novel by Willie Mae Jackson. Rife with intrigue from wire-to-wire, this book is an ambitious effort. A captivating who-done-it with bonus conflict, MiR is a story that follows the endeavors of one smart and savvy protag, Donovan Montgomery, a criminal forensic psychiatrist from Chicago. The writing is sharp and so cinematic; and escorts you into the plot so deftly that you feel like you are living the story. Beyond the overarching plotline there are many elements that are pertinent to some of the issues going on in the world today, particularly the US. For me, these elements were handled well and added to the quality of the story and the overall experience of the read. I will definitely be watching to see what the author decides to do next. This is a solid four-star offering; recommended.

Make It Right started off like a pretty good story. Donovan Montgomery, Chicago’s top forensic psychiatrist, is on her way to question a white supremacist on trial for killing three young Black men when a mass shooter kills over 30 people in Daley Plaza. I was drawn into Montgomery’s world as she realized where the mass shooter had been and who the real target might have been. I then followed her through the trial and her reaction to the outcome.
Then the story took a major turn and became something I hadn’t expected. Wow. The suspense and drama increased to the point that I was up till 4 a.m. before my eyes got too blurry to see the Kindle.
Great character development, excellent research, timely topic.
I don’t want to give any spoilers.
Other reviewers have commented on “profanity and sexually explicit scenarios,” but they fit the characters and the story. If you don’t like those parts, skip over them and enjoy a fantastic book!
By the way, it didn’t hurt that Montgomery is evidently a Cubs fan.

This novel is truly full of suspense and drama to get a reader going. As a crime thriller, touching on various social issues, it is easily relatable as you read each character's background and development. You'd keep cheering for Donovan Montgomery to beat the bad guys. A wonderful woman who has the courage to make it right for the community and the people, not allowing white supremacists and neo-Nazis to prevail, preventing them from holding a position of power and committing more crimes.

One can hope that more people are like Donovan in real life. She's a heroine we wanted to exist to bring justice in our somewhat corrupted world.

Make IT Right, is the first novel (I hope there are many more) by Dr Willie Mae Jackson. It tells the captivating story of a forensic psychiatrist (Donovan Montgomery, MD) and her involvement in a high-profile criminal trial. As I read through the story, it’s profound how the events of the tale are very relatable to current events. I highly recommend this book and hope there are more from this very ambitious author.
