Unexpected, Nut Delightful
I really liked the story of Amanda and Marco. They took a little while to get where they wanted, but they did so in an effort to better each other. Of course, there were a few moments where fear was a hindrance, but eventually they were each able to overcome that for each other. I also liked that Amanda was a few years older than Marco. I don’t see it as often as I’d like - it’s always the other way around. But here, we have Amanda being the stable and responsible one that guided (not mothered) Marco into accepting who he was and in gaining confidence in his abilities.

In this latest entry into Nicole Burnham’s San Rimini series, Amanda Hutton is attending the wedding of her best friend to the Crown Prince of San Rimini. The king decides to hire her, the daughter of an American diplomat, to guide Prince Marco in how to successfully maneuver life in the public eye. Somehow, due to Circumstances, Marco has never been comfortable as a Royal, and until now has lived what appears to be a carefree, reckless existence, not wanting responsibility, just fun. Since Amanda teaches children of diplomats how to comport and protect themselves, the King decides she would be the perfect tutor for his youngest son.
I really liked both Marco and Amanda. Both have issues which have made them who they are, and they quickly grow to like and respect each other. We watch Marco and Amanda’s deepening friendship and growth as adults, as they quickly grow to respect and simply like each other. Then Nicole throws in the growing attraction between Amanda and Marco, and you have a fun story.
My only issue with this book is that the timeline was too short for the plot to work well for me. I can see the instant attraction, and even the almost instantaneous building of a friendship, but one of my first thoughts when finishing the book was that to build such a solid relationship it takes more time. As a complaint, this was a minor one, but took a half a star away from my rating. I don’t like finishing a book analyzing what I didn’t like about it. Therefore, I rate this 4.5 out of 5 stars.
