Immortal Enemies is... dear god, it’s so many things. I loved the building of characters, the story and let’s not forget the heat and tension between the main characters, Arne and Liv. As always Jessie delivered a one-two punch and knocked this one out!
When the story begins Arne and Liv are young ones who really have nothing in common, other than the silence around them. Arne is spying on Liv, Liv is hiding from the world. It’s a chance meeting that slowly builds into a friendship unlike another. The two spend hours and hours together, all while getting to know each other. There are secrets but they push passed them. Arne falls head over heels for Liv.
Liv’s caretaker, Helga, lord that woman! She tries to keep these crazy kids on the right track. When Arne gets a little too close to Liv, well she slaps him with a fish. Talk about a laugh out loud moment. There are others as well. I really like the old crone.
Things aren’t always so easy. As Arne grows and becomes a man he must go out and pillage villages, as any good Viking would do. This leaves Liv to await his return. Once he returns things chance between them... things look good then... tragedy strikes. It’s in those moments that choices are made, choices that change both of their lives forever.
Fast forward to now... a thousand and some odd years later and... those changes may be the only thing to keep them grounded and back on the same footing as before.
