In "A World Such as Heaven Intended," Amara McKirnan and Nathan Simmons share a devotion to their Catholic faith but their loyalties lie on opposite sides of the conflict. Dedicated to the Confederate cause, Amara offers to help out at her uncle’s makeshift hospital in Atlanta. Fate brought Nathan to their doorstep and into Amara’s life. Little does Amara know that the wounded soldier she cares for harbors a secret that will not only jeopardize his life but hers as well. Follow Amara and Nathan’s story from the heart of war-torn Atlanta to the Northern Georgia battlefields to the plains of East Texas as their lives become intertwined in a way that shatters the separate worlds they once knew.

Recommended by a colleague, I was skeptical at first, because it has every appearance of a romance. Boy was I surprised! It actually reads like a good western, and is historical fiction to the core. The author has clearly researched the Civil War era, building robust characters and settings that make you feel like you are there. And while it is a man-meets-woman story, it doesn't labor on that, instead crafting a saga from multiple perspectives with twists, turns, and intertwined stories that both: keep you guessing and make you want to read more.

Being a John Wayne fan, I could not help picturing Nathan as him, and Amara as Marueen O'Hara. So if you are a fan of Civil War stories, The Quiet Man or McLintock, treat yourself to this!

Expertly done, and a nice find!

From the first pages, A World Such As Heaven Intended hearkens back to the pinnacle of epic Civil War romances, Gone With the Wind. The narrative alternates between the gritty realism of the bloodiest battles on American soil and the light-hearted treatment of the Amara and Nathan's romance.

Amara has spunk, Nathan has honor, and they share the same Catholic faith, but a war looms around them, and despite their attraction, circumstance and misunderstanding work against them. In the midst of tragedy, their fates become inextricably intertwined, sending them on a cross-country trip. They travel in disguise, which not only adds a light touch to the story, but also gives them ample opportunity to fall in love.

A World Such As Heaven offers a sweet story and a pleasant escape for those who enjoy Civil War romance.

I received an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review. The author is a fellow member of the Catholic Writers Guild.

This book is amazing. I'm not much of a fan of historical fiction books, but this book blew me away! I was so hooked on every last word that I could not put it down. Being a teenager myself, I can relate to most of the feelings that are portrayed in the characters of Nathan and Amara. The Civil War information and detail that is included in the book is very clear, and you feel as if you are undergoing the hardships of the war right along with the characters. I love the writing style of Mrs. Lauer, and if you have a teen (guy or girl) who is looking for a new book, I definitely reccomend this book (and the whole series!).

I received an autographed copy of A World Such As Heaven Intended from the author herself. It captured me on the first page! The imagery of Civil War times is so vivid that the reader can easily picture being there as a fly on the wall or as one of the characters. The novel is a fairly quick read with a brilliant twist toward the end made possible by one of the characters we would least expect. Upon finishing, I wanted to dive into another tale by this talented author.

Loved reading this unique story. The terror of the war, the meeting of a couple torn by that war, the escape and the trip that lasted months. The slow love that built between a couple and the result of coming home.

This was an enjoyable read. It was a good Civil War story that wasn't too much war or too little war. This is a bit of a romance novel without going overboard. Bottom line, I liked this book.

I totally enjoyed the plot of this book. It would have been one of my favorites, The characters were very beIievable and created an interesting story. My only criticism is using language I don't approve of. There are ways to write to present roughness of a character without that. You already had me hooked with the story. If it was my usual read I would have put it down in a heartbeat. I would never continue to read a book that has such. I hope you will consider this when writing another book. Don't call it Christian fiction when you use bad language.

A different perspective on the Civil War by a young Irish Catholic woman whose father owns his own business in Atlanta and has remarried a woman very shortly after the death of his daughter Amara' s mother. Not for the weak of stomach as contains many thorough descriptions of wounds as Amara becomes hospital assistant to her uncle, who is a surgeon who has turned his ballroom and all the rest of the first floor of his home into a hospital.. It starts out near the beginning of the war, long before Sherman burned Atlanta, and has the best post-war epilogue ever. I read it once then read it again right away, it's just that good!
