Victoria's writing style moves the reader between the Kenyan landscape and the myriad emotions that make up human life. A multitude of emotions play out such as hostility, love, greed, guilt, trust, loyalty, whispers from the past and more. Interstingly, her detective is your regular homemaker and community member--there are no frills here. I enjoyed the chapters where Mama Rose, the vet, drives to help with a sick horse or puts light on the poaching in the area. Moreover, the conversations are sprinkled with native Kiswahili words, which makes it more pleasurable. The book is simply writtern, easy to read and is a good blend of the real and the imaginative.

Fowl Murder is the first book in the Kenya Kanga Mystery series and is a fantastic start to this new series. I loved this book and the descriptions of Kenya that bring the book to life. The characters are realistic, relatable, eccentric, and likable. The storyline is well crafted and captured my interest from start to finish with mystery, murder, motives, danger, and intrigue. I am looking forward to reading more books about Rose Hardie in the Kenya Kanga Mystery series. I read and reviewed this book with no obligation.

Kenya, veterinarian, murder, murder-investigation, amateur-sleuth, family, family-dynamics, friendship, rural***** The people were the best part of the story (to me), then the descriptions of attire/places. But overall is the well-done whodunit with just the right amount of twists and red herrings. I really enjoyed this trip to another country and its people!
