When a young man breaks a pact with the Spirit, he unleashes a wrath on a small town where women are compelled to destroy the men. What is the greatest joy of writing for you?

Scaring the crap out of you!

What's the story behind your latest book?

The script was with Miramax for a while and they decided to pass since Japanese style films like The Ring were cornering the market. Then it went into a pilot for TV and was passed on since the leads were young. And finally I novelized it.

What are you working on next?

The sequel to The Night the Sky Fell. Another Old Soul emerges...someone you know!

Who are your favorite authors?

I always like Agatha Christie for plotting.

What inspires you to get out of bed each day?

Breakfast

The Night the Sky Fell by Stephen G. Levy is a tale of extraordinary beauty that will appeal to anyone who enjoys gritty tales of horror. An eighteen-year-old young man breaks loyalty to a powerful spirit and brings down its wrath onto a town. Acts of unusual violence begin to take place, directed towards innocent men. Can this city stand? Is there anyone who could be left? And can the Great Spirit be appeased? Such are questions the reader asks, caught up in the intense action of the fast-paced plot as they read feverishly on.

Banks has great dreams, but dreams are not easy to come true, so when the moment happens for him to get help, he jumps on it. ‘Banks picked up a large vat from the old pickup and ran to his uncle. “Banks, is it the royal honey?” After Banks nodded, the Chief continued, “Open it…now make your wish. The Spirit above My Head will hear it better in Tlingit. Take the book and feel your way through it to the Great Spirit.”’ Banks doesn’t know that he has entered into a bargain that will cost lives and bring terror to his town. From the moment that Banks Blackhorse makes the wish, the story becomes so intense and gripping.

The Night the Sky Fell by Stephen G. Levy takes us into a world where a young man breaks an oath with a Spirit, and a small town becomes engulfed in wrath. The women of the town are compelled beyond thought to destroy all of the men in the town. Blackhorse is a young boy who is part Sioux and part Tinglit, but he does not want to embrace that heritage. What Blackhorse wants most in the world is to be like a rich white man. Nothing is ever as easy as it seems, however, and big wishes like that often come with a big price to pay.

Sometimes the moment you pick up a book, you know without a second of doubt that this is going to be a read that you will enjoy. Stephen G. Levy has written such a book. If vivid prose such as "Blood will spill, thought the raven" does not get you excited to dive into a book and read it from cover to cover, then nothing will. I threw myself completely into the rich tapestry of this book; the characters are fully developed and rich. The backdrop that they have been set against is just as vivid and amazing. A story that is in some ways a picture of human desire and things that could happen in our world, other parts, of course, are beyond imagination. The supernatural elements of this story are fresh and crisp, there is not one single typical trope to be seen anywhere within these pages. It was a true pleasure to read this book and I can hardly wait to read more by Stephen G. Levy. I am truly hooked.

This is a page-turner, plain and simple. I’m a huge fan of paranormal thrillers and coming of age stories both, and this is the perfect marriage of the two. I love the setting – Alaska, beautiful and wild, and filled with spirits, creating the perfect, almost unknown wilderness of an atmosphere. I feel that the setting alone adds a lot to the story. Characters were incredibly realistic to read, and Banks Blackhorse is a protagonist definitely worth reading about. The battle of moving forward with the turning of the earth while still managing to honor tradition is one that has been explored countless times in other books, but not like this, not with this amount of depth. Even better, the book is a quick read that you can finish with ease, but this doesn’t detract from your enjoyment of it – instead it offers a world of possibilities. The supernatural spin really adds so much to The Night the Sky Fell, and I feel that you’ll find it worth your time.

Wow! This book leaves me breathless each time I pick it up to read. It redefines the supenatural, Paranormal genre. The suspense, romance, fantasy in here is so beautifully crafted I just couldn't get enough of it.
The author did a fantastic job on this book, the writing was of a high literary quality which is one of the reasons I really enjoyed reading this book, right from the first page the pace of the book was steadily built and the pace and tempo increased as it went on, it got to a point I was so hooked I couldn't stop till I finished reading it. An all round complete and interesting book filled with lots of lessons to be learnt which I strongly recommend and I'll proudly give four out of five stars.

When I saw this novel was part of a series, I didn’t know that I would be reading something so intricate and passionate. The story combines many genres to create a plot that will grab the attention of any reader that loves sci-fi or horror. I think, my favorite element of the novel is the author’s voice, which allowed me to fly through the book while enjoying every second of it. Often, in series, I notice that the story is incomplete in some areas as the author tends to cover those grounds in upcoming books. I didn’t see an ounce of this in the novel, which made me feel very satisfied with what I was reading. The author seems to have nailed every aspect of the story too. You have brilliant characters as well as character development, an original concept, a solid plot, powerful descriptions and dialogue that would make any author jealous. This book needs to be on your TBR list.

This is an intense thriller, but fairly bizarre. The plot centers on a young Native American man in Alaska who balks at his destiny. His supernatural battle with a Spirit has disastrous effects on his community. In general, the plot is well-developed (although don’t expect a satisfactory ending as this is only Book 1 of the series) and has strong elements of the mystical (some seemed too stereotypical to me) with tense and creepy moments along the way. I appreciate that there isn’t a lot of gore, which often detracts from the plot for the sake of horror.
The book had a lot of potential, but it fell flat for me because the character development was disappointing and the poor editing distracting. The characters felt disconnected emotionally, which I didn’t understand. For example, when the city-wide “happening” occurs, other than a small hysterical group almost everyone has a very detached, clinical approach.

The Night the Sky Fell by Stephen G. Levy is a different take on the supernatural thriller genre. With richly developed characters who struggle mightily and an Alaskan backdrop that is stunning, Levy has created a wonderful, heady mix in this innovative novel. A young man's coming of age story, Banks Blackhorse unleashes mayhem on his town when he goes against a powerful spirit. Can the Great Spirit be appeased or will the town be destroyed? Certainly a unique setting, a different kind of writing about a not often traveled locale, a good mix of mysticism, horror, and just super scary happenings and this book is set apart from the rest. The author has a great command of language, plot development, and creating relatable human dilemmas. Highly recommend for a read that is different on a lot of levels and quite entertaining.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Paranormal Suspense Novel!

The Night the Sky Fell: Spirit above (Banks Blackhorse Series, Book 1) written by Stephen G. Levy is a supernatural suspense novel with a captivating plot and great writing. This book was carefully thought out, the writing flowed smoothly, the story was unique and very intriguing, and overall this was a very entertaining read. The reader follows Banks Blackhorse who gains strength from his Native American background which provides a great basis to this plot line. The author did a terrific job with making the characters believable but not in a stereotypical way. The story is set in Alaska, and the reader will find themselves really pulled in and going along for the ride. There are many moments that will have the reader on the edge of their seat, and I found that the author did a wonderful job with the conclusion to this story, as there were no major questions left, which I find in a lot of suspense novels. I highly recommend this book!

Upon starting this book you will likely come to the end pretty quickly. An instant attention grabber that hooks you into the story almost instantly which is just what I look for in a book. The story has the thriller aspect about it but with a supernatural twist which I thought was brilliant. I’ve recently been watching stranger things, and this book gets your heart racing in the same way. This is the first book in the series by Stephan G Levy, and I have also read the other two which are just as gripping and entertaining as this one. A brilliant book.

This author has an instinct for a plot which prove satisfying to the reader. This story is set in Juneau, which is interesting in itself. Unfortunately, I felt uncomfortable with the idea that a native American boy would do anything to be white and this marred my enjoyment of the story. It also didn't help that the book sorely needs proofreading and editing. What a shame!
