About this ebook

This Wall Street Journal and USA Today bestseller is filled with true stories about how one small deed can make a world of difference. “Elegant and wise” (Deepak Chopra). “The most uplifting and life-affirming book in years” (Forbes).

“This might be the most beautiful book I’ve ever read. It’s lifted my soul and brought me to tears in all the right ways.”—Jane Green, author of 18 New York Times bestsellers

Named best inspirational book of the year by the Independent Book Publishers Association and chosen as an International Book Awards winner, HumanKind is the heartwarming, feel-good book we all need right now. These inspiring stories will open your heart and rekindle your faith in humanity.

You’ll meet the mentor who changed a child’s life with a single lesson in shoe-tying and see the far-reaching ripple effects of that seemingly small deed. You’ll also meet the six-year-old who launched a global kindness movement; the band of seamstress grandmothers who patch clothes and mend hearts for homeless people; the puppy, given as a gift, that touched the lives of thousands of children; and many other heroes.

There are also practical tips for making a difference with your own words and deeds, and the resource section lists organizations where you can channel your efforts to create your own ripples of kindness.

HumanKind is a great gift to yourself and anyone who’s been a source of kindness in your life. It will leave you grateful for what you have, provide a refuge from the negativity that surrounds us, and remind you of what really matters.

We read this incredible book to our two sons at night before bedtime during the Coronavirus quarantine. It has been a weird and scary time for all of us, but especially for the kids. The incredible, uplifting stories in the book helped put a smile on our faces, occasionally a tear in our eyes and always an idea of something we can do for someone else. My favorites were the stories of small acts people undertook. Of course, starting a huge nonprofit is amazing, but some of the stories were things that just took a few seconds or a few minutes and really made a difference in someone's life. I started to understand its power when the morning after a big argument, my 6 year old wrote his 10 year old brother a note saying "you matter a lot" and ideas for things they could both do when they are upset rather than fighting with each other. It was a simple idea he had gotten from the book, but a moment the whole family needed. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.

Just when I was sure I had lost faith in humanity, I read Humankind - an antidote capable of fighting off the damaging current culture of negativity and hate. Brad Aronson’s real-life stories about real-life people reassure us that goodness isn’t only on the horizon, it’s among us, and we’re capable of spreading it, every single day. This book oozes with the hope we all crave.

This magnificent book, HumanKind, is the perfect gift for someone who loves stories and people and quotes. It is a gift I received from a friend, a gift I treasure. I have read it once and will certainly go back to it often to remind myself of kindness, of the small acts that make a difference, and to remind myself to take time for reflection. The stories are beautiful; one flows into the next with lessons clearly taught in a gentle, "oh, I could that" manner. Thank you for writing this at a time when the world needs these reminders more than ever.

About the author

Brad Aronson is a husband and a dad, and when he’s holding the parenting reins, he likes to go all out. For him that means leading an egg drop competition from the third-floor window of his family’s home or heading up indoor games of baseball and hockey, and then having to explain why something else is now in pieces. Luckily, his wife, Mia, is understanding.

Brad loves teaching entrepreneurship to youth in Camden, N.J., and volunteering on the nonprofit boards of Big Brothers Big Sisters and Hopeworks.

One day, Brad hopes to be famous for co-founding a national holiday that features a seven-foot-tall orange tree and more than fifty stuffed monkeys (see chapter nine in HumanKind). In the meantime, he works with tech startups and writes books.
