The Masked Man is on the loose in the Land of Stories, and it's up to Alex and Conner Bailey to stop him...except Alex has been thrown off the Fairy Council, and no one will believe they're in danger.

With only the help of the ragtag group of Goldilocks, Jack, Red Riding Hood, and Mother Goose and her gander, Lester, the Bailey twins discover the Masked Man's secret scheme: He possesses a powerful magic potion that turns every book it touches into a portal, and he is recruiting an army of literature's greatest villains!

So begins a race through the magical Land of Oz, the fantastical world of Neverland, the madness of Wonderland, and beyond. Can Alex and Conner catch up to the Masked Man, or will they be one step behind until it's too late?

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 3–7—Twins Alex and Connor, along with Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks, Mother Goose, and other characters chase a masked man—the twins' uncle—into stories such as The Wizard of Oz, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland. He is always a step ahead and bargains for troops to take over the kingdoms in the fairy world. Alex and Connor wind up separated in the stories of King Arthur and Robin Hood, needing to create a potion and get back to Oz. Peter Pan and the Tin Woodman join the adventures. Several subplots add depth to the narration—a girl finding genetic links to Wilhelm Grimm, Red Riding Hood marrying the Frog Prince, and a witch who takes life's energy from children. Colfer's narration is excellent, giving different voices to the many characters and keeping the pace of the rollicking story moving. VERDICT Adults will appreciate references to Hans Christian Andersen and other classic tales, while children will just appreciate good stories on their own terms.—Debbie Whitbeck, formerly of West Ottawa Public Schools, Holland, MI

This is a great book, it is the continuation of the saga of Alex and Conner and the discovery of their life story. It is well written, the characters are great and the story flows. Alex and Connor continue on their quest for justice to bring peace and to continue find out about themselves and their family history. This is a great series for kids, I believe it is also a great series for adults who likes fairy tales told from another perspective, all the storybook characters come to life but different from the regular fairy tales, some in the way you were told and others a little bit different. I like this series and I am an adult.. I can't wait until the last book comes out but I will also be sad, because it will end the series, I think, at least it will end the series, I don't know, I guess I will have to wait and see. But I do recommend reading this series from the beginning, that way you will understand each character very well.

Chris Colfer increases the complexity of his plot in this, the 4th Land of Stories book. Instead of a single book set of adventures as he has previously written, Beyond the Kingdoms is setting us up for the big showdown coming in Book 5 between Alex and Conner Bailey supported by their ragtag group of fairy tale characters and their evil Uncle Lloyd (aka the Masked Man). In this installment, they find that their Uncle had stolen a potion at the end of the previous book (LoS:A Grimm Warning), that allows him to enter any the imaginary world of any book. Lloyd is amassing an evil army from the likes of Peter Pan, Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland and more. He wants nothing less than to obliterate the Fairy Tale World. Alas, the twins and supporters always seem to be a step behind him, as the tension builds. We cringe at their missteps and cheer Alex and Conner's successes.

Colfer keeps readers engaged in this fast-paced story. Just when you have figured out what is going on, he throws us for a loop which keeps the book exciting.

This book is an adventure fantasy book. The main characters, Alex and Conner, are twins. They go on many adventures in the Fantasy World with many other characters, such as The Fairy God Mother, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Red, Jack, Goldilocks and many others.
This book is about Alex and Conner’s uncle, who wants to take over, destroy and burn everything in the fairy world, and how Alex and Conner try to prevent this from happening. So, they follow their uncle into many other stories like Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan and many more. They need to stop there uncle from making his army bigger with all the evil characters from these different stories.
I really loved this story because of all the adventurous times that they all had.
Once I started reading this book, I didn’t want to put it down. There are parts in the book that make your heart race and you actually feel like your in the book.
I would recommend this book to all the people that love an adventurous, fantasy, action filled book or a really great book in general. The Land of Stories is a great series to read.

What?! You can't leave me hanging like that.
I mean she and he and they...ugh.

To be completely honest, I went into this thinking that this book would end the saga. I was wrong.
Alex has discovered the masked man and now has been kicked off the fairy council.
Plus she's losing control. She's losing her temper. And every time she does...her powers go well enchantress evil.
Red and Charlie didn't get married. He went with the witch who cursed him in order to protect Red. Goldilocks is pregnant..and hormonal.
The masked man has turned the witches against well...everyone else.
He stole a potion that the former fairy-godmother made to cheer him up on a random day before stripping him of his powers.
He is now traveling through realm after realm collecting fairytale villains to assist him in taking over.
So..the adventure begins.

Travel guide:
Oz
Wonderland
Neverland
King Arthur's time (Turns out OMG has a thing for Merlin)
Sherwood Forest

If you have read the land of stories. I highly suggest this one.
If NOT...start with book 1.

These aren't just for kids. I'm in my 20's and stayed up reading each and everyone of these books.

As I was reading, many unexpected events made me say, “Well, I never thought that was going to happen!” Beyond the Kingdoms introduced a lot of mini ending surprises. I love this series. Mother Goose is always wonderful!

I'm a 50 year old Retired Air Force women who has been a fan of Chis Colfer since his days on Glee as Kurt Hummel. I' am absolutely spell bound by all of his wonderful Land of Story creations. They are such a fresh take of our beloved fairy tells that at times I find myself laughing out loud reading them, and other times turning the pages in anticipation of what is to come next. Chris is an absolute genius the way he ties in modern day problems with the old time tales that makes it fresh and fun for all ages to enjoy. The only draw back with these stories...the next book does not come out fast enough! I can't wait for book 5 and beyond! Please keep the train rolling with the movie options for this series, because I will be there along with all of your other adoring fans!

The story is compelling. It's a good book for 9-14 year olds. Advanced readers might find the writing style flimsy but overall a good book for its target audience. The product itself was in good condition. Exactly like the pictures. Was worth buying

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great story!

Really great story!! Really great series of books by a very talented young author which have been 'read' (listened to) multiple times.
Listened to all the audiobooks in this series &they get better&better as they go along. Each character has it's own voice &personality both on the page & in the narration. The way he has mixed up all the fairytale characters to form a whole cohesive world which builds through the series is incredible.
He is an author who is on the 'keep up with' list, which is where we keep up with the books as they are released.
This series needs a movie deal!
