An excellent YA read. Excellent cover, excellent editing (I didn't notice a single error), and a story that moved along with no jarring notes. I look forward to reading the sequel. This is definitely one of the best reads I've had in a batch of much lower-rating books (not from this author).

I really enjoyed this audiobook. The narration was good and so was the plot. Benson is a slave who eventually is bought by a martial arts coach who is actually anti-slavery. But he’s recently divorced and is floundering with daily tasks on his own … he sees an ad for Benson, and is impressed by Benson’s martial arts skills. He trains the boy. Unbeknownst to him, Benson has a sister, Ellie. Benson is trying to free her – a promise made to his dying mother. ... Intriguing.

I don't read much fantasy or sci-fi, so the best I can equate this book to is Hunger Games. It's set in a fantasy world and the characters are compelling and loveable, the plot is gripping. The fight scenes are so well described. Not once did my attention wander when reading this book and it's not even my favorite genre - I even stayed up late to read it. I highly recommend!
