This is a tale of vampires with a different slant. Oh, sure, it has plenty of fangs-in-neck action, but it goes beyond that to tell the story of a family of vampires based in New Orleans. It’s a world built on secrets, naturally, since mortals don’t usually take kindly to vampire activity, but it digs beneath the secrets to reveal a world of complex family ties, strict protocols, and steamy erotic action that is the hallmark of vampire love, lust, and life. It’s a fascinating documentary, of sorts, filled with little-known facts of vampirology. Did you know that vampires can erase the bite marks on their victims just by rubbing a little vampire blood on them? Or that certain vampires possess magical amulets that allow them to walk around in daylight without harm? All this—and much more—is revealed in this fascinating and steamy journey into the world of those who drink blood.

This book takes the vampire world and creates a soap opera, and if you like that form, you'll like it. I found it entertaining, but it was sometimes hard to keep track of who was once married to whom. I had to go back and reread things to keep track of it all. Lots of ex's in this book. I found the female characters more intriguing than the males. The author created a setting for her characters with New Orleans, which I loved. This book is definitely an entertaining read. This is the flip side of Rice's book—it doesn't have a dark side, instead the sunny side. So, if you are searching for a vampire book that is more positive and puts a focus on the relationships between vampires (love). This would be the one.

Sex, Blood, Rock 'N' Roll, and Vampyr: A Vampire Rock Star Romance (The Bloodline Series Book 1)
By: K.M. McFarland
5 out of 5 stars

The story Sex, Blood, Rock 'N' Roll, and Vampyr: A Vampire Rock Star Romance (The Bloodline Series Book 1) by K.M. McFarland is a story that had me hooked from the very first chapter. I have always loved vampire stories so when I read the description of the book I knew that I just had to read it. It is a story that has a lot of characters. Some are vampires and some human. I loved reading about how they live, the connections between them, and the information given about their past. You also read about the characters that have fallen in love and those whose romantic relationships are beginning. Friends and family are important to many in this story. One of the main characters is Quinn Forester who was part of the band West Side until he disappeared. You find out that Quinn Forester had been turned into a vampire. Jeff West, who was also one of the band members of West Side, always thought there was foul play in Quinn’s disappearance, however, could never found any proof. Jeff finds himself in New Orleans where the questions about the past once again arise. Will Jeff finally find the truth about Quinn’s disappearance? This is a book that is based in New Orleans. I love books that are written in this city. It has a history that I find mysterious and haunting at the same time. The atmosphere that the author has created is one that wraps itself around you and I found myself lost in the story. This is the first book in a series and I can’t wait to find out what is in store for the characters and the direction that the author takes the storyline! This is also the first book that I have read by the author and have found that she has a wonderful writing style which is easy to read and follow. She creates amazing characters that come alive. Don’t miss out on this story.

This book is one of the best books I have read in a while. It was so steamy and sexy, I could not put it down! The characters were great and the story was just fascinating. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read.

This book was a bit confusing at times. I loved the New Orleans backdrop, it is definitely conducive for the vampire world story. With the city engulfed in mysticism, magic and the occult made it's storyline more believable. In the beginning the protagonist is telling her back story at her mother's deathbed. Then at the funeral her missing dad shows up, but avoids his daughter by flying away, letting the reader know he's a vampire. Doesn't one vampire recognize another vampire? Anyway, this sets up Randi's storyline of getting Quinn and all his vampire connections on a quest to find her long lost father. A different take on the vampire world, set in the fantastic city of New Orleans.

The teen rock star vampire genre really got going with "Vampire Junction" in 1984 which was rapidly followed by "The Vampire Lestat" a year later, but these two books are essentially polar opposites, with Rice's book opening the door into romance territory. This latest attempt, after almost four decades of evolution, tends more in the romance category, with just enough hard edge to make it more enjoyable than most. The author seems to be a true fan of the genre ... even naming the main character Quinn appears to be an homage to the author of "Hotel Transylvania," another highly influential book from that period. The New Orleans setting is also, of course, derivative.

You would think there'd be almost nothing left to say in the young rock star vampire milieu, but K.M. Farland does ring the changes successfully. This is a highly diverting and enjoyable novel with memorable characters and a plot that combines mystery and romance successfully. It's part of a series I haven't read, but it seems well worth exploring.

This is a worthy addition to the world of vampire books, centering on a former rock star who now lives in New Orleans. Numerous plot lines run throughout, keeping the book interesting. The dialog is written well, and the book is more grown up than the Twilight series. The New Orleans setting adds mystery and a gothic vibe, and is the perfect backdrop. The writing is descriptive and visually keeps you in the story. Recommended.

An 80s rock star turned vampire….wow the storyline it could have taken…flash back to the time and music but nope. A juicy plot line…nope. Intense animalistic sex scenes, nope. I gave it two stars because maybe a fifteen year old might like it.

It was a good enough story but it didn't grab my attention. The writing was executed well, though the story would have benefited from more showing, and less telling.

3.0 out of 5 stars A soap opera for horny (nice) vampires.

This book is in desperate need of a relationship counsellor. The blurb makes the book sound like it's Jeff's story, but he barely gets a mention. Probably because he hasn't had sex with enough of the other characters to be the focus of this story. His daughter has more page time, having sex with Quinn and his wife (the wife is Quinn's daughter's childhood friend and as someone who gets inappropriate advances from creepy older men, I find this gross. For any men reading this - don't do it. It's creepy. Find someone your own age.) She later hooks up with (one of) Quinn's ex girlfriend's son (I think - everyone was sleeping with everyone else so it was hard to keep track).

I found it a bit hard to suspend disbelief with the vampire details. The author makes it clear that they have reflections in mirrors - of course they do, they have a physical form. But they can also fly, super fast, which if you are being logical, can't be achieved in human form. It just made it hard to believe for me.

Like any good soap opera, there wasn't a lot of plot going on.

This is a SRB review.

3.0 out of 5 stars which at times just complicated the storyline unnecessarily, causing confusion and a disruption to the flow

Sex, Blood, Rock ‘N’ Roll and Vampyr is the first book in the Bloodline Trilogy by K.M. McFarland. This is my first book by Ms. McFarland and I was interested to read her take on vampire lore. This is a paranormal, vampire/Rockstar story.
The characters were believable- well developed and complex- with their own unique personalities, quirks and flaws. But there are a lot of characters, and a lot of POV’s, which at times just complicated the storyline unnecessarily, causing confusion and a disruption to the flow. The erotic element was present, but what was there seemed a little rushed. This just added to the confusion for me.
From the blurb, I expected the story to be a little different from what was delivered. Don’t get me wrong, it is an interesting story that is well worth the read if you like a vampire story with a difference. I normally do too, but it just didn’t grab me like I was hoping. I will re-visit this book in a few weeks to see if I still feel the same way, or whether I just had an off day when I read it.
As this is the first book in a trilogy, I will definitely read the other books to see where the author takes us.

Thank you, Ms. McFarland!
