A new adventure hatches in Book One of the Inheritance Cycle, perfect for fans of Lord of the Rings! This New York Times bestselling series has sold over 40 million copies and is an international fantasy sensation.

"Christopher Paolini is a true rarity." —The Washington Post

When fifteen-year-old Eragon finds a polished blue stone in the forest, he thinks it is the lucky discovery of a poor farm boy. But when the stone brings a dragon hatchling, Eragon soon realizes he has stumbled upon a legacy nearly as old as the Empire itself.

Overnight his simple life is shattered, and, gifted with only an ancient sword, a loyal dragon, and sage advice from an old storyteller, Eragon is soon swept into a dangerous tapestry of magic, glory, and power. Now his choices could save—or destroy—the Empire.

A white-clothed princess smuggling to rebel forces an item that could greatly damage the empire and its cruel hold over the citizenry. In an act of desperation, it is launched away only to be discovered by a farm boy, disenfranchised with his life on his uncle's farm. He soon meets up with an old man, a former knight/sorcerer, who becomes his mentor as he escorts the boy and mcguffin to the rebels. Also, the Emperor's right-hand man has a glowing red sword... Why does it all seem so familiar and unoriginal?

This is as terrible as Goodreads said it was. Who actually thinks this is good?? The entire plot of Star wars and every character name from Lord of the Rings was all mashed up in this mess. Princess has special item, and launches it off to hide from evil emperor. Ordinary farm boy finds it. Discovers secret about item and bumps into old stranger who knows more than meets the eye. Farm boys house is burnt down by bad guys and uncle dies. Characters flee on a big journey and find kidnapped princess, etc etc.

Dispite the books dragging on and on, this book is truley amazing and has the detail of a movie playing in your head. (Speaking of the movie, without a doubt read it first.) Christopher knows what he is doing throughout th book, but often travels on to tell smaller stories that distract you from the big picture. As the book goes on (and on) it slowly makes the story grow into an epic battle. The detail is great. Not, however, for anyone around 6, 7, 8. Want me to summerize the book in only 4 words? Lord of the Rings.
