The Sound of Silver (Steadfast Love Book 2) Kindle Edition
After Dirk rescues Gwyneth from the Iconoclastic Fury, she discovers that faith is sometimes fragile—and hope is not as easy as it may seem. Now truly orphaned yet not alone, Gwyneth continues her quest to learn more about the love of God preached by Protestants she once distrusted.
Dirk’s quest is to prevent his sullied name from staining hers. Will his choice to protect her prove the undoing of her first faltering steps toward a Father God? Once separated, will Dirk and Gwyneth’s searching hearts ever sing the same song?

About the author
Rachelle is a freelance editor, an author of six books, and voracious reader. If you're looking for her, check the bookstore. In 2016, she married a man with the same name as her fictional hero and they live happily ever after in a fixer-upper by the sea. She's a fan of chai and lemonade (though definitely not together). - Reviewed in the United States on November 3, 2015The Plot {5 stars} – As far as the plot line went, The Sound of Silver continually drew me in and led me deeper into the lives of the characters. Rachelle made me feel torn with grief along side the characters as they experienced sorrow, separation, betrayal, and resentment; I also felt their joy as love, forgiveness, truth, and hope was showered upon them. Will Dirk and Gwyn be together again? Will Dirk’s past cause Gwyn to be unsafe? What is the sound of Silver? Oh, those questions will keep you on the edge of your seat until the end of the book.
The Characters {5 stars} – I was happy to see more of Joseph in the story, and more of Cade and Margried. Gwyn began the new book with her prayer from in the dungeons of last book changing her life in ways she didn’t foresee. Her hope and faith in God are strengthened and her questions do not cease, they grow deeper and her quest for Truth had only just started. I loved meeting Dirk’s family, and especially his mother who reminded me of my own. My complaint last book was not getting to hear from the supporting characters as much; my elation with this book is that Rachelle introduced us to new characters, and gave us much insight into the lives of those we met in Diamonds. Dirk, still headstrong at first, sort of made me upset (and according to the story, I wasn’t the only girl who felt this way!) with his stubborn decisions, but in the end, God worked a change into his life, and I was joyful. :)
The Lessons {5 stars} – All the characters dealt with an abundance of varied emotions. Each one was at a different place in their search for God. The lessons that Rachelle wove into the story, whether whispered tenderly from Dirk’s mother or kindly spoken from Brother Joseph, were rich and powerful. The newly blossomed faith of Gwyn brought her hope in the midst of her sorrow and restlessness. Dirk found that the love of Christ never fails, no matter what his past may have been…and that sometimes, choosing what we want to do isn’t always a bad thing when it follows along with God’s plan. The truth woven in this story is beautiful, and probably my favorite part of the Sound of Silver.
Overall rating: {5 stars} – Someone summed up this book well, “If hope sounded like diamonds, surely truth sounded like silver.” Truth surely radiated and sparkled like silver in this golden sequel. The story tugged at my heart, whispering truth and sprinkling joy and hope. The ending was romantic and beautiful, just the way I hoped. I sincerely can’t wait to see how Rachelle is going to top this book with her last book in the series, The Sound of Emeralds!
Age recommendation: {Read aloud – 10 and up} {Self Read – 12 and up}: There is romance in the story, so please keep that in mind when reading to younger audiences. The violence isn’t present as much, but references to the bloodshed in the other book are present.

by Rachelle Rea Cobb
After a tumultuous meeting and getting to know one another as they traveled through the Netherlands in order to escape the riots, Gwyn and Dirk are now betrothed. They travel from the Netherlands to Dirk's family's home, Godfrey Estate in England. He believes that there, Gwyn can grieve with his mother; Gwyn grieving for her parents and uncle, Lady Rohesia for her eldest son. Yet the rumors that Dirk murdered Gwyn's mother and father are bound to fly and Dirk does not want his reputation to affect Gwyn. She feels responsible because she is the one who accused him of murder months prior. Dirk leaves, thinking it will be best for everyone involved, only to find that it takes its toll on them all.
This was a really good book. It's very emotional, lots of ups and downs. Gwyn is still grieving for her parents who died only a few months prior, and now she is dealing with the fact that her uncle is dead after just finding out that he was responsible for her mother and father's deaths. That is a whole lot to deal with. And then add the fact that she and Dirk were betrothed, and he breaks it off thinking she'll be better off without him; and she has to stay with his family, who she had never met before. Poor Gwyn! I felt so sorry for her throughout this book. It would be so hard to deal with all of that while staying with virtual strangers. And I felt pretty bad for Dirk, too, because he had also been through a lot. But, they had hope in the Lord, and that is what got them through it all. And then (spoiler!) we get a happy ending- with a twist.
I have to make a comment on the setting of this series. The Netherlands and England in the mid-1500s? It's just so cool! I love picturing all the outfits and the large, grand homes, and cobble stone streets as they go through town, and the forests and fields surrounding Godfrey Estate. It's just a delight.
All in all, The Sound of Silver was a great sequel to its predecessor that made me curious as to how it will all end.
I give this book a 4 out of 5.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 22, 2016I was startled by how utterly I could *not* put down these books. This isn't my usual genre, and I consider myself a pretty cerebral reader, not usually much influenced by emotional writing. So, I only actually read the first book because a friend gave it to me and I knew she'd ask about it. ;-) But, midway through, I was engrossed. I seriously stayed up most of a single night, reading it through to the end... which, of course, was a cliffhanger. So, "Daaaang, I'm actually going to have to buy the next one...!" led me to Amazon Prime, (cuz even waiting 2 days felt long, haha) which is why I can now write this review as a "verified purchaser." ;-) Suffice it to say that as Historical Fiction/Light Romance goes, (and again, I'm not usually a fan) these books are *good.* Thought-provoking, enjoyable, intelligent, emotional, and enlightening, I will totally be buying and giving this series to my friends now, too. I'm bummed there's only this trilogy currently by Rachelle Rea...! Maybe someday, there will be more?!
