Publisher Description
“Expect to be spellbound”* by Patricia Briggs’s #1 New York Times bestselling series starring Mercy Thompson. Being a lowly “walker” in a world of vampires, werewolves, and fae once kept her safe. But Mercy’s bark—and bite—are not so harmless any more…
Though Mercy can shift her shape into that of a coyote, her loyalty never wavers. So when her former boss and mentor, Zee, asks for her help, she’s there for him. A series of murders has rocked a fae reservation, and Zee needs her unique gifts, namely her coyote sense of smell, to sniff out the killer.
But when Zee is accused of murdering the suspect Mercy outed, he’s left to rot behind bars by his own kind. Now it’s up to Mercy to clear his name, whether he wants her to or not.
Mercy’s loyalty is under pressure from other directions, too. Werewolves are not known for their patience, and if Mercy can’t decide between the two she cares for, Sam and Adam may make the choice for her...

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Shape-shifter Mercy Thompson has a complex life, juggling two werewolf lovers and a job working for a fae mechanic; things get even more hectic when her boss and mentor is arrested for killing a citizen of the fae reservation. As the fae seem content to let him rot, Thompson takes it on herself to clear her friend's name, beginning a lone-wolf investigation that may cost her life. Briggs's third novel featuring Thompson (after Blood Bound) is another top-notch paranormal mystery; her well-balanced contemporary world, where humans live uneasily among werewolves and fae, is still a believably lived-in world; the ever-present threat of government legislation against nonhumans (though familiar to X-Men fans) adds weight to her paranormal elements, and thoughtfully researched mythology adds rich detail. Thompson is a sharp, strong heroine and her lycanthropic love triangle is honest and steamy. Briggs never shies from difficult material, and she moves effortlessly from werewolf pack psychology to human legal proceedings, making this a tense, nimble, crowd-pleasing page-turner.

See AllKeeps getting better
First werewolves, then vampires, now the fae take center stage in the third Mercy Thompson book. The romantic tension between Mercy, Adam and Samuel finally sees a resolution, and once again we see deeper into the supporting characters. The plot is better crafted than the first two books.
SPOILER WARNING: This book deals directly with sexual violence towards women. I think Briggs does a good job writing that part by not getting graphic with the act but dealing instead with the emotional aftermath. However, if that's not a topic you're comfortable reading about, then maybe skip this book (or the ending).
Bone Crossed
I love this series, but I am also generally obsessed with both werewolves and strong women.
Wonderful
I love this series and how the author develops the characters. This is one of the most sensitive portrayals of rape and recovery in a strong woman that I have ever read. These books are amazing and I keep re-reading them!
