I have read each of the books included in this set individually. Following are my reviews, originally posted on Rach Lawrence Books:

    In Too Deep:

New Zealand police officer and dive team member Piper Harland left her home nine years ago after the death of her father and being dumped by her one true love. Ryan “West” Westlake never got over letting Piper go, but his home is on the island where they grew up, running his family’s business. Now Piper’s brother is in financial trouble, and she needs to return to the island to help save his business. She has to work alongside of West for six weeks in order to put everything back to rights—including her relationship with her family and friends.

Neither Piper nor West is willing to admit their feelings to the other. It’s an impossible situation anyway since she’ll be returning to the city. They both will need to decide what’s most important: staying the course or being truly happy.

In Too Deep was a flirty, fun, sexy read. Both main characters were stubborn, but they way the author had them butting heads was entertaining. Just when I thought it was starting to get old, they both gave in to the UST and allowed the fireworks to soar. That wasn’t the end of their banter though. It continued even during the intimate scenes, but it was appropriate for the characters as they were written and amusing for the reader.

The story was much more than a romance though. Piper had to let go of her guilt over her father’s death, and she also had to mend fences with her family. West had been holding on to a grudge thanks to his mother leaving him years ago that rendered him incapable of being happy in a relationship. All of these plot lines were tied together nicely with secondary characters who added depth and meaning to the story. There were a few instances of Piper’s brother’s point of view, but they were integral to the plot and not just there to get the reader interested in the next book (although I’ll add they did that anyway!).

I also enjoyed the way the author provided information on diving in a way any reader could understand. It was not too technical yet not too dumbed down.

In Too Deep is a must read for contemporary romance fans. I would definitely read more by this author and more of this series.

    Hide Your Heart:

Bounty Bay native Lauren Taylor is happy to live a quiet life with her four-year-old son Drew, and her brother and his family close by. An abusive ex-husband and a former life in the spotlight keep Lauren from opening up to anyone. But all that will change if Nate Fraser has his way. Nate has purchased the house and land adjacent to Lauren’s, with plans to renovate and sell to someone who wants to turn the place into a celebrity retreat, bringing the paparazzi right back to Lauren’s front door.

Famed photojournalist and most eligible bachelor Nate Fraser never plans to stay in one place for very long. His life is one of travel and adventure. From his own childhood, Nate knows having a wife and child are out of the question with his lifestyle. His investment in the Bounty Bay property should provide a quick return, allowing him more freedom in the types of jobs he takes. He can’t let his attraction to his sexy neighbor and her loveable son put a kink in his plans.

When their attraction can no longer be denied, Nate and Lauren give in to temptation. Each of them knows better than to give their heart over to this temporary situation. But denying their love will only get them so far. Lauren will need to come out of her protective shell, while Nate needs to decide what he loves more: the freedom of traveling, or Lauren and Drew.

Tracey Alvarez has written another stellar contemporary romance in Hide Your Heart. The characters are deep and go through a lot of growth throughout the story. Even little Drew will squeeze your heart and hold on tightly. Although the situations aren’t necessarily relatable—wouldn’t we all like to be tall, gorgeous former fashion models?—their struggles are real. Lauren only wants to keep to herself and protect Drew, and Nate’s plan for his property threatens that. Even Nate himself, famous in his own right, is dangerous for Lauren to be around if she doesn’t want to be recognized.

Lauren is a strong woman; her past has seen to that. But she continues to grow and strengthen as her relationship with Nate progresses. Her initial reaction to him—fear to near passing out—is contrasted nicely with her trust in him later in the story when he grabs her ankle playfully and holds her down.

Nate knows what he wants out of life, and having a wife and kid don’t fit into that picture. His own relationship with his father is sprinkled throughout the story. We come to understand why Nate would never want to subject anyone else to that kind of life, but we also get to hear about the good times he remembers with his father. Comparing those times to Nate’s relationship with Drew will give you all the warm fuzzies.

I also appreciate the author’s descriptions of New Zealand. Even though I’ve never been there, I’m still able to picture the scenes as I read without feeling like I’m getting a geography lesson. The climate is worked right into the plot with rain storms facilitating the meeting between the main characters and necessitating their close proximity during the rest of the story.

Hide Your Heart is a must read for contemporary romance fans. Although it’s a standalone book, the secondary characters are nicely woven into the plot leaving you eager to read the next book. I’m looking forward to the next installment of the Far North series.

This was a really good, interesting story. Actually, it was 2 books. I had already read the first book by itself and when this starter set came up as a freebie, I got this as well and just skipped book 1. From what I recall. In Too Deep had more sex in it. I already reviewed that book so I'll only review Hide Your Heart here. We have Lauren and Nate. Lauren was an abused wife. She moved back to New Zealand with her 4 yo son after her divorce to start over. Then she meets a sexy neighbor and things progress from there. I thought the story was well thought out; very believable with what she suffered and how hesitant she was to trust again. This was a steamy romance with a HEA and some infrequent swearing.

I've read both of these books, and I absolutely love the way this author writes her stories around the New Zealand landscape. It's like you're actually there, very detailed, and her characters just jump off the page at you. Hot chemistry, funny scenes, and two books that you will not soon forget. Here are my reviews for Hide your Heart and In too Deep...

    Hide your Heart
I loved this book. Sweet story about an ex runway model who left her scum bag husband with her 2 year old little boy because of an abusive marriage. The story picks up two years later in Bounty Bay New Zealand when her car skids off the secluded road and is saved by a photojournalist who happens to be the proud owner of the land next door to hers. The story is full of heart breaking mentions of the abuse she's so desperately trying to hide from, her now 4 year old son who still has nightmares, and the new neighbor, Nate, who buys the land next to Lauren and fixes it up to sell off to a big shot in the city So it can be turned into a retreat for the wealthy. Loved how Nate ended up weaving himself into Lauren and Drews lives, not realizing he was falling for Lauren. Really hot, steamy love scenes, makes it a must read. I was given the awesome opportunity to read this book for an honest review, which I have. Read the book, you won't be sorry.

    In Too Deep
I really enjoyed this book. Once again, the author give you the feeling that you're right there in New Zealand. The way she writes her characters and the scenery they work and play in is pretty incredible, really makes you want to take that trip half way around the world just to experience it for yourself! I love these characters, Piper is the cop that comes back to help her brother, and West is the one she left behind, but he doesn't intend to let that happen again. Love the chemistry between these two, neither one backing down from each other, but each hiding how much they want each other. Worth the read, a solid 5 stars for me!

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 8, 2017
Loved both books - very well written.

In Too Deep - 4 stars

I really enjoyed this book and I'm definitely going to continue the series.

I loved the writing, strong characterization and worldbuilding. Initially, I wasn't sure if I would enjoy a small, rural community setting but the author wrote it so well that you couldn't help falling in love with the place.

Piper and Ryan (West) have spent years dodging each other and as the story develops we being to understand why. The author skillfully builds longing and angst and I really felt the emotions of both characters. I felt it dragged a little in the middle and I thought I'd die if they didn't get their act together.

Both characters develop and grow throughout the story and eventually learn to let each other in. It was really sweet and romantic (and there's plenty of steamy action too!)

The ending was a bit too cheesy for me (though I'm not usually opposed to a bit of cheese)and the only other thing I didn't like was the slight change in perspective and tense on occasion which was jarring. Minor complaints though. For a debut novel, I think it's very accomplished, and I look forward to reading more from the author.

    Review of Hide your Heart:

This is book one in Tracey's new Far North series and as a massive fan of her Due South series I was really looking forward to getting stuck into this book.

Hide Your Heart tells the story of Lauren and Nate. Lauren is an ex-model hiding from a troubled, dark past. She will do everything to protect her young son Drew, including ignoring her growing attraction to hot newcomer Nate.

Nate is a photojournalist who has purchased the nearby house as an investment. Taking time out from his busy career, he plans on fixing up the house and selling it to a developer who intends to use it as a celebrity retreat.

Lauren, naturally, isn't happy about his plans as she is desperately trying to shield herself and her son from that world. As their paths intertwine, she finds it harder and harder to deny her feelings for him. The attraction is mutual and Nate is also trying to avoid giving into his heart. Nate's plan for the future is to travel the world taking photos and he has never entertained notions of tying himself down. Until Lauren.

As the story progresses both Lauren and Nate are on a journey of self-discovery. Learning to trust in themselves and each other is a challenge they embark on together.

This book is written in Tracey's usual enthralling style and the words flow beautifully on the page. The setting is again a small rural community but it's evocative and visual and I found myself wishing I lived there. Sigh :) The characters are complex and well written and I was definitely rooting for Lauren the whole way through. Her son Drew is an adorable character and so desperately in need of a father-figure. I was hoping that Nate wouldn't let him down.

The only slight issue I had with this book was I felt the pacing was a little slow in the first third. However, thereafter I was drawn in and it galloped along at a great pace.

If you are a fan of Tracey Alvarez' Due South series, or you like well-written contemporary adult romance, then I highly recommend this book.

    Actual Overall Rating: 4.5 Stars.

These two books tick so many of my boxes.... great writing (including great editing), beautiful love story with well developed characters including secondary characters and communities you get invested in, well written steamy scenes without awkward stilted language and the bonus is that the stories are based 'Down Under'! New Zealand is painted with gorgeous imagery and use of local language and slang that makes these stories especially relatable as well as more believable. And to get TWO stories that tick all those boxes all wrapped up into one package just makes it all the better!
I'd definitely recommend both stories if you're looking for fun, humourous, stories with depth and a lot of heart (and maybe a bit of steam too!).

I have read a few of Ms. Alvarez's books now and after reading a number of similar authors I have come to appreciate her style of writing. The characters are complex yet warm - and real. The way Ms. Alvarez describes New Zealand is also coloured by her passion for the country and the people. Two good reads in one. I already read the first in this duet. A second chance love affair, with grit yet heavy on family which I found totally believable. I also enjoyed the second book. A chance encounter on the roadside, both hero and heroine runnng away/ regrouping and a time limit on their relationship.which prevents either of them going for what they really want.
I like the author's style. The sex is hot but not graphic or flowery. More of the same please
