In a world on the brink, survival comes at a price.
The mountaintop community of Beartooth thought they were safe. After weathering the first round of stratospheric aerosol injections intended to cool the planet, the residents believed their isolation would shield them from the chaos below. But when deadly predators invade their sanctuary and their closest neighbor falls under the rule of a ruthless extremist faction, peace becomes a distant memory.
For Ash and Caleb Solomon, the dangers extend far beyond their home. While traveling outside Beartooth, they encounter a group of desperate geologists fleeing a nation unraveling under violence, division, and corruption. The recent passage of the Continuity in Crisis Bill—suspending elections in times of turmoil—has plunged America into a dark new era, pushing the country toward the brink of civil war.
Kim McMahill started out writing nonfiction, but her passion for adventure, stories of survival against the odds, and speculating about the future of humanity and our planet, soon turned her attention towards fiction. Along with her novels, she has published over eighty travel and human-interest articles, and contributed to a travel story anthology. Growing up in a beautiful mountain west community, traveling the world, and enjoying a rewarding career with the National Park Service has given her the opportunity to live in amazing places, experience incredible adventures, and witness many changes in our world, all of which have helped shape her stories.
