About the author
Though I now live in Kelso in the Scottish Borders, I was born and brought up on Tyneside; the setting for my last four novels. Once a Geordie, always a Geordie, as the saying goes.
Though I only began writing in 2001, many of my short stories and articles have been published in national magazines here in the UK. But then I felt the urge to move on and write something with a little more grit.
My first novel, The Trojan Project, is an all-action thriller. During the writing process, I felt I was on the ride of my life, as I added so many spine-chilling incidents. I was determined to grab the readers' attention from the very beginning and give them the roller-coaster read of their lives.
Since then, I turned to writing women's fiction. Divorcees.Biz, a novel of fun and romance, shortly followed by, Only Twelve Days, a heart-warming romance.
However, after deciding to turn my hand to writing a series of cozy murder mysteries, I chose my hometown as the setting. Murder on Tyneside - Agnes Lockwood Mysteries Book 1, was released in December 2016, with Agnes as the new sleuth on Tyneside. Death on Tyneside (Book 2) came next followed by Vengeance on Tyneside (Book 3). A Mystery on Tyneside (Book 4) was published in October 2020.
Hopefully, there will be a Book 5 in the series. How could I possibly let Agnes Lockwood down, when she has given me so much fun - she is part of me now.

- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2019I read this book not knowing the geography because I live in the States. So I spent some time on Wikipedia looking up Tyne, the Tyne Bridge, the Millenium Hotel and the Millenium Bridge. This helped me to understand the setting and familiarize myself with British terms like quay. Once I was able to do that, then the book fully came to life. It is more of a book about thievery than it is about murder. The murders are more of a side note to the overall storyline.
The writer did a good job making the reader feel just as frustrated about the disparate thefts that seem to be confusing the main detective, DCI Johnson. It can baffle readers because the plot unfolds slowly, but readers should persist so that they can get the pay off at the end.
After reading the book, I read some of the reviews to see if my point of view differed because of my location. But it reinforced my view of the book. Agnes is a strong character who some readers may like but other readers may think undermines the police force and makes them look buffoonish under the guise of a romantic interest. It worked for a while, but can be distracting simply because of the lack of concrete evidence. The plot moves forward by inquisitive speculation which is different from what I am used to.
Overall, it was a great read and I look forward to reading the rest of the series.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 20, 2024Murder on Tyneside is a delightful cozy mystery. When the protagonist Agnes Lockwood decides to visit Tyneside, a place where she grew up, she becomes involved in an adventure that she did not see coming.
The book is the first in the series and is a meandering but comfortable read. The character of Agnes is very likable and I’m curious to see what she’s up to next.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2024I really wanted to like this book. I generally enjoy cozy mysteries. It was a bit slow in the beginning and did improve but only after about 40% through the book. Agnes is a likeable character. The case was interesting, as was the conclusion. It just felt off that she was solving this case when a seasoned detective couldn't.
There was a touch of possible paranormal, which I don't mind. Well written and did not include anything gory or racy.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 28, 2024I enjoyed this light breed immensely. The characters were just a little hokey, but the storyline was fantastic. I would recommend it to anyone who likes reading with twists and turns

- Reviewed in the United States on June 17, 2024Agnes returns to the town where she was born but left at an early age. She meets up with an old (male) friend. He is a police officer. She thinks it all very exciting when they find a body. She decides that she is to be part of the police investigation and the story unfolds. Lots of mystery and (for me) chuckles. Entertaining. An easy read.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 31, 2023The story was slow to start. I kept putting it down because it seemed to move too slowly.
The plot was good with lots of misdirection.
Agnes is a smart, intelligent woman and I kept wondering how she was out-thinking the Police. I like her character and her bravery.
Interesting twists and turns. Well worth reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 12, 2025Our protagonist, Agnes, is a 50 something year old widow and empty nester or as she quaintly puts it, "lady of leisure." She decides to insert herself into a murder mystery because she's bored. Now, to each their own but her trying to solve a murder because she sees it as fun just doesn't sit well with me. The next problem I had with this book was the fact that the detective (or whatever the role is called in Tyneside) decided to share info with Agnes about the case on an ongoing basis because he's sweet on her. Police letting civilians in on what should be confidential info is always a no-no for me. The third issue I had and ultimately why I decided to give up on the book is because Agnes realizes that she is in direct danger, staying at the same hotel as a suspected killer who obviously has it out for her but SHE REFUSES TO LEAVE. This might appeal to some but it didn't to me, sorry author.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent detective novel on the Tyne
One of the best who did it novels I have read in a long time . Agnes Lockwood is visiting her childhood home when thefts start happening in the hotel she is staying in. Becoming friendly with the detective in charge leads Anne’s into becoming a Miss Marple of the north

5.0 out of 5 stars A VERY ENJOYABLE READ.
Agnes Lockwood's husband had died the year before, with her children living away, she decides to go back to her own place at Tyneside to see how things had changed. She books into a hotel. Its here she meets an old school friend who happens to be Chief Inspector Alan Johnson, who works for The Newcastle Police Force. They soon find themselves friends again. When jewelry starts getting stolen from the hotel, then two murderers happen, Agnes finds joy in helping, Alan, seeing she was with him from the time it happened. Trouble is, Agnes hasn't realised the danger she can get involved in. But action certainly seeks out Agnes in this thoroughly enjoyable read.
A recommended Read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun read with a few twists and turns.
It was a pretty good read, not too descriptive, just enough to set the scene. The characters were easy to like and you felt like you’d recognize if you’d meet them. The author weaves together a good story, using different characters to illustrate the plot.
