Chase Your Dreams West is a sweet middle-grade novel and part of a fun series about Ginnie and her love of horses. While the series is geared towards those in the middle grades it can also be fun for older young adults to read as well. I, as an adult, enjoy reading this series aloud to my kids as well.

We have horses on our farm. And my kids love them! I often find one or more out with them. Petting them, feeding them treats, or simply sitting on them. The horses are a central part of our farm. They make the kids feel responsible and important. They also give them a feeling of independence.

    This book is wonderful.
There are a few sensitive type topics. Like the fact that a dad who was absent comes back into the picture. There is some death as well(as in the death of a parent). Just so you know going into the novel. I also did think there was some disobedience which we of course do not promote.

The girls have grown some more in their lives. Their parents are now engaged. But Tillie’s biological dad comes onto the scene. And Ginnie is trying to learn and follow in her mother’s footsteps. Plus there is the uncle. I’m not a huge fan of him and his pranks. They’re not always as innocent as they seem.

I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from Celebrate Lit. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. I was not required to write a positive review nor was I compensated in any other way. All opinions expressed are my own. I am disclosing this in accordance with the FTC regulations.

I first met Ginnie West in 2020 in The Secret Sisters Club. Ginnie is one headstrong kid. One who has a heart of gold.
Losing your mother at any age leaves a scar. Even if you’re only three and barely remember her.\
But Ginnie had vivid memories of the day she lost her mother. And those memories drove her to be just like her mom.
And yet, she knew that the only way to become true sisters with Tillie was for her dad and Tillie’s mom to get married. Only now that it was becoming reality, Ginnie feels like she’s betraying the memory of her mother.
Ms. Bucheger’s characters are genuine, their situations real, tragic and funny and true to life. Tough situations, complicated relationships, true friendships. Always a delightful read with kid—and adult—antics. And sometimes, dreams really do come true.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but was under no obligation to read the book or to post a review. I offer my review of my own free will. The opinions expressed in my review are my honest thoughts and reaction to this book.

By Monique Bucheger and G. L. Rasmussen, Chase Your Dreams West is a Contemporary Upper Middle-Grade book and the fifth in the Ginnie West series. The book and series explore the themes of family, resilience, and the power of chasing your dreams.

In this heart-warming book, Ginny West continues to escalate her efforts to follow in her deceased mother’s equestrian footsteps. She works to push herself in ways that would make her mother proud. Her mischievous side continues to show through her prank war with her Uncle Jake, and she finds herself trying to figure out her family. She works to figure out the complexities of family relationships while uncovering truths about her family and forming richer connections with those she loves.

Meanwhile, Tillie, Ginnie’s best friend and hopefully soon-to-be sister, continues to juggle two fathers after her absentee dad returns. She desires a horse and family stability. Together, the two girls and the rest of their families continue to navigate the moving waters of creating a blended family. Filled with reconciliation, connections, and more, this book will keep the reader engaged.

This book contains heartfelt interactions, humor, and horse-filled adventures. Chase Your Dreams West provides a memorable journey of building connections and understanding. Fans of contemporary middle-grade fiction will find themselves caught up in the stories of Ginnie and Tillie.

So, if you are looking for a Contemporary Upper Middle-Grade book and series, that celebrates family, growth, understanding, and connection, check out Chase Your Dreams West by Monique Bucheger and G. L. Rasmussen and the other books in the series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.

Chase Your Dreams West is the first book I’ve read in the Ginnie West Adventure series, and I was immediately sucked right into this family and their hectic world.

Ginnie and Tillie have a comforting and almost idyllic life (a farmstead with animal companions and a huge, tightknit family) but also face various trials and tribulations that keep the girls’ adventures feeling grounded in reality. There’s drama within the family, but you never doubt the love the West family has for one another or the strength of the bond between the two BFFS.

Chase Your Dreams West is heart-warming and humorous, and the characters are so well written that you can really imagine them as real people struggling with real problems: from serious, relatable worries like Tillie balancing her relationships with a returned father and a soon-to-be stepdad, to Ginnie’s more light-hearted but still emotional struggle to convince her family to let her follow her dreams of becoming a trick rider.

From what I’ve seen in this book, Ginnie and Tillie will burrow their way right into your heart These books are perfect for middle-graders, horse lovers, and adults alike. I’ll be checking out the previous books and continuing on with the series as it progresses.

This is a wonderful and warm book, telling the tale of a large, complicated family held together by love. They continue to discover themselves and work through their relationships here, as ever helped by the care they take of their beloved horses. Hugely enjoyable :-)
