As police chief, Tanda Lopez has vowed to protect the people of Alpine. But how do you protect a town against itself?
Situated deep in the Chihuahuan Desert, no one is coming to help the citizens of this remote Texas town. When the entire array of lower orbital satellites crash, they are instantly catapulted into a world without communication, power, or resources. Tanda is determined that law and order won’t be the next casualty of the apocalypse. But how can she fight a corrupt mayor? Can she stand between those who wish to uphold the law and those who are intent on annihilating it? And what will she do about the neighboring communities who are preparing to attack?

- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2023Alpine, Texas is the scene of a train derailment and accident. The Chief of police is Tanda, She has worked with many from her town and Emergency personnel to help survivors and remove the deceased from the train accident. They have worked for hours, but no other Emergency personnel from the train company or government have come to aide and assist. Tanda drives back to Alpine and realizes the traffic lights, radio, cell phones, arent working. Something is very wrong, But no one understands what it is.
I read this book in one night. The story grabbed my attention and i couldnt stop until the end. This is my first time reading this author, Vannetta Chapman and i will definetly read more. One of the best Post Apocalyptic books i have read, you wont be disappointed.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 21, 2023I found this book to be a thought provoking look at one possible apocalyptic scenario. The characters were realistic and engaging. The story moves swiftly without unnecessary filler.
I gave it four stars because the story feels short and unfinished.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 15, 2024This book series was excellent. Couldn’t put it down and read each one in the series one after another . It’s based off the Kessler effect papers about the crash of technology. The characters become like family to you as you read and cheer them on. Some sadness but lots of hope is written in these books.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 7, 2024This story is so very well written, with very interesting details and characters. Progresses from a disaster that affects the town and weaves a very believable scenario. Definitely worth reading!!!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2023Too many mistakes...Jim Beam, not Jim Bean. The proper term is flashed back, not flash backs. Just a couple of several....in the first 50 pages. Too many alpha females in leadership positions.....which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just unlikely that the police chief, fire chief, and mayor would all be females in a very small West Texas town. Not a very believable plot concept and very irritating when coupled with too many males characterized as weak and without a clue. I am never a fan of this reverse type feminist thinking. Also too many times when irrelevant thinking resulted in several sentences which did absolutely nothing to advance the action in the story or strengthen the plot, only added word count and sounded more like the author expressing her own opinion...not showing a strong character for her main female protagonist. There's more....but enough. Poor writing, errors which should have been caught by editing, and incredibly bad character and plot development.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 10, 2023This is an end of times novel. It was disturbing like all books are in this genre but it was very readable. I would agree with another reviewer that some of the off-color language wasn't needed. I was disappointed that not much talk about God and faith was in this book. Hoping to see more in the next book as I will definitely be reading it!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 18, 2024Different take on the apocalypse. Spellbinding

5.0 out of 5 stars Pulls you in immediately
This is a great story. What would you do if all of a sudden you were cut off from the internet, cell phones, your government support network and the rest of the state? Regular people are thrown into chaos and find a way to maintain their humanity. Hopeful and thought provoking.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read.
A different take on the usual apocalyptic books that I have read, and it’s very refreshing. It's an interesting story and easy to read and follow. I really enjoyed this book and the characters were great. The Kessler Syndrome or Theory is a real scenario that makes it a bit more scary. I'm looking forward to reading the next book.
