Cowboy suspense, historical fiction, romance---what more could you want? In the early 1800s, Johnny is caught between the proverbial rock and hard place. With a cowboy friend, he runs away from his Colorado cowboy job to his brother's home in Texas. He's been accused of a murder, but he didn't do it. When he arrives at his brother's place, the brother is dead. AND the brother had sent money for Sally to come from St. Louis to be his mail-order bride. Johnny poses as his brother because they do look alike, while his cowboy friend from Colorado pretends to be his hired hand. Sally's on the train already. Sally had never seen Mark, the brother, so she didn't know that Johnny wasn't Mark. They'd written letters but had never met. Lots of twists and turns in this story. Many anxious moments for Johnny and Sally. Suspense makes you want to keep reading. Great story!

I loved this novel by Susan Davis Page. Lots of action but leaves room for plenty of tender romance. The historical setting was accurate and well-researched. This makes me hungry for more of her western historical romances!

This was a very engaging novel. And i like Susan Page Davis's dialogues. Very realistic, and so were the daily life descriptions. I struggled with Johnny's tamely following all of Cam's advice in the first few chapters. I was very afraid something bad was going to happen to Sally a couple of times. I was glad it had a good ending.

Really enjoyed this book. Lots of twists and turns along the way to a refreshing ending. Christian values are compromised but can repentance lead to changed lives? Great writing and a page turner as the I had to know what would happen to the characters next.

    A Lovely Read!!

    Really enjoyed it!
Sally is a woman determined to get marry, and Johnny is not exactly looking forward to it. You see, Johnny's brother, Mark was suppose to be the groom, but he meets an unfortunate end before we even meet him in the story. Sally is living in a depressing state and is anxious to leave her present situation, so she's very happy when Mark proposes.
Johnny is sweet, but appears to be quite naïve in the beginning of the novel. Johnny is supposedly accused of murder, and his friend Cam advises him to run away, which Johnny does, and Cam goes with him. I don't want to give any spoilers, but you'll see all the things Johnny does under the advice of his friend Cam. I really like Sally, she's very loyal to Mark aka Johnny, and the way she reacted to Cam's inappropriate behaviour is quite commendable, she's also smart to force Johnny to step out from under Cam's guidance.
I think readers will highly enjoy this novel, I know I did.
