Star Frog 127, and the Chaos Inception (Tales from the Storystream) Paperback – November 11, 2020
Purchase options and add-ons
In space, no-one can hear you croak.
Chief Frog 127 is a prime example of his species: a cunning, ruthless sneaker, hell-bent on clawing any advantage possible from a harsh and uncaring Universe. He might not be of high rank in the Space Force of the Glorious Hegemony of the Frogopolis, but by the Swamp God, he is one frog who is going places.
What does it matter if sometimes he feels that something is badly, deeply wrong? After all, everyone has bad dreams.
But when 127 meets the strange alien known as the Prophet, his glorious trajectory turns out to be far weirder and more dangerous than even he could have thought possible.
Fighting for his life, battling sly foes on every side, will 127 possibly prevail? And even if he does, can he win the only battle that really matters: the one for his own soul?

About the author
![Jamie Brindle](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/713RImc6sRL._SY600_.jpg)
Jamie Brindle has been writing stories for many years. Occasionally, they are even published. He was raised by two ex-hippies that sold boomerangs for a living and grew a hedge maze in their back garden, in Bedfordshire, England. He was home educated until the age of fourteen, which gave him lots of time to do the really important things in life, like make boomerangs and run around mazes. He studied biochemistry at the University of Sussex, before realising that he didn't really enjoy working in labs. He then worked in a school for around four years - a terrifying experience for someone who was home educated - before studying medicine at Warwick University. He currently works as a GP. He finds writing speculative fiction a wonderful way to unwind after long shifts spent in the bizarre fantasy world of the NHS.

Amazing story, full of fantasy and weird characters, full of movement, twists and turns, dark episodes and no so dark, terrific and not so much, everything is confusing and weird and at the end did 127 make it?
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2020This is an interesting tale featuring frogs and other types of beings. The characters in this are developed and the story is something that is pretty entertaining as well, as strange as it may seem. It is also fun to see how the author added frog-centric things throughout the book, and they make sense in a whimsical way. The lead character, Chief Frog 127, is a character you might not want to root for in the beginning but later this might change a bit. Read this one if you are a fan of fantasy tales and have a good imagination. You may be surprised at how much you like it, considering the subject matter. However, it is easy to get lost in this action-packed novel. I like how the whole thing is eccentric and offers something a bit out of the ordinary. If that is something that you’re interested in, check it out.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 17, 2020Chaos Born by Jamie Brindle is a science fiction book set in a different universe. Readers get introduced to the story's main character, Chief Frog 127 whose ambitions run high, and along with his cunning and ruthless personality, he gets what he wants and excels among his species. His life takes a drastic turn when he meets the Prophet, as he gets mixed in a violent and dangerous phase of his battles. As he uncovers all the darkest secrets, he discovers that what he might have known all his life could possibly be all just lies. The author brings us to a suspenseful and thrilling adventure of 127 as he tries to return back the peace in his life.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2020Twisted. Surreal. Sci-fi melded with the fantastical unreality parallel to that which emanates from Lewis Carroll. 127 is clearly out of his depth and is unable to make sense of what is going on around him. As a reader I experienced his confusion as well. Jamie Brindle does a masterful job at giving that experience to his readers. LOVED IT!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 7, 2022…I LOVE THIS!!!! I caught a mistake an editor would have caught, but I did leave a note….
The writing is fun, in depth, not just shallow sentences,, but FROG 127’s feelings, thoughts and ideas as he carries out his nefarious plan, yes, even in Chapter One, FROGS are cunning, evil, and FUN…. After 2 years hiding out in my living room, I was desperate for SOMETHING NEW! The writing quality is really good; just a loss of continuity there….I will continue this as I go along….or at the end! Nice, Jamie! Who would have thought? Frogs! 🐸🐸🐸 😁😁😁

4.0 out of 5 stars Chaotic, mind- and reality-twisting space(frog) fantasy adventure
*I received a free ARC of this book, with thanks to the author. The decision to review and my opinions are my own.*
Well, first of all, I should have read this book BEFORE Chaos Drive, if I wanted to make my life easier, so I strongly recommend you do that! These stories bend time, space and storylines enough as it is, without the reader adding to their own confusion!
So, we are back in Frogopolis with Chief Frog 127 and the Prophet to find out what happened BEFORE the events in Chaos Drive because of reader error on my part. Chief Frog 127 has a great story arc here as he begins the story as an irredeemably unlikable piece of pond scum, then somehow redeems himself into the most unlikely anti-hero ever, before… not telling you – I don’t want to spoil the fun!
Expect space-frog battles and physics- (and metaphysics-) bending as 127 and his rival, Bullfrog, battle their own psyches and each other in order to win a bit of the Prophet’s power, a ship of their own and a mysterious secret weapon… oh, and honour, if frogs can be said to have any. There are recursions, reversions and repeating patterns throughout, and a very cool cameo from Silverlight and Quince (Diminishing Returns), as frogs.
Which is the whole idea of the Storystream, of course: all are connected and interconnected via the meta-format of stories. Fans of Douglas Adams, Tom Holt or Robert Rankin will enjoy this chaotic, mind- and reality-twisting space(frog) fantasy adventure.

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a frog-eat-frog world
This is an action-filled book that starts with an in media res “James Bond intro scene”, and then keeps the pace throughout. Sure, not every scene is action, but even dialogue scenes do not let any pressure off the tension that remains, in one form or another, from the first page to the last.
For me, where the book is least strong is dialogue and characterization; my reader experience was that everyone in this universe speaks with the same voice and has close to the same core personality traits that manifest in only a few variations. With so many iterations of “aggressive wily self-absorbed opportunist who is sure they have a trick up their sleeve”, I found it difficult to feel invested in the fate of any particular character.
On the other hand where the book excels in my opinion is what sci-fi does best; exploring ideas that can’t exist in our universe, or rather, with our level of technology, at least. There’s a degree to which the book avoids trying to make the technologies credible, but the main characters are anthropomorphized frogs so I think that’s a fair choice. Sometimes it can be perfectly acceptable to just say “there is this technology, this is the result, never mind how it works or how it came about or why it is here”, and perhaps that is the case here.
On a technical note, the book could stand editing, or even proof-reading, but if you’re just here for fast-paced entertainment, this may be the read for you.

4.0 out of 5 stars A frog filled novel
Chaos Born by Jamie Brindle tells the story about a frog! Yes you read that right, the sci-fi is filled with frogs, aliens and packed full with action.
This book reminds me a little of Animal Farm due to the climb in ranks, chief frog 127 is hungry for. If you get past the fact the main characters are frogs, the plot is fairly interesting. We watch how the story twists and turns with action fully crammed into every page.
Chief Frog 127 is an ambitious amphibian who once he’s set his mind to something, gets exactly what he wants. However after meeting the Prophet, his life isn’t ever the same again. Uncovering dark secrets turns his life completely upside down, with him then questioning everything he has ever known to possibly be lies!
I’m not the biggest fan of sci-fi’s and this was written well but I think that the characters were frogs, made it a little hard to believe and relate to the characters easily. It was still an interesting read but it just wasn’t for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very intriguing!
This book is a Sci-Fi fantasy book set in a parallel universe about a frog named Chief Frog 127 who wants to climb ranks within his species in the universe and even manages to do so. But after meeting the Prophet, he becomes entangled in a series of dangerous events that change his life, and his perspective on what the truth really is. This book is really good, with twists and turns and an unexpected setting. Brindle has done a great job when it comes to creating a universe that just sucks you in.
