Growing up, he had envisioned adulthood centered on a loving marriage relationship like his parents had. But since being drafted right out of college, he is relieved that the hectic pace of minor league baseball provides him with a convenient excuse for avoiding women.

Kate Simmons is clearly not the shallow, predatory creature Alex assumes most women to be. When they meet at a team charity event, Alex is curious and interested. This woman is no groupie. But despite her secret crush on Alex, sweet, shy Kate has her own reason for steering clear of men.
